Job Description

Company Description

Codeyoung provides coding courses for learners aged 5 to 17, focusing on building strong, practical skills in web development and related technologies. The curriculum is designed to be highly hands-on, with clear, measurable learning goals that support real-world application. Sessions are interactive and student-centric, encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and independent problem-solving. By moving away from traditional teacher-centric models, Codeyoung empowers young learners to take ownership of their learning journey and grow confident in their technical abilities.

Role Description

This is a part-time, remote role for an Online Mentor for Web Development, supporting learners during US and UK shifts. The mentor will conduct live, online sessions to teach web development concepts, guide students through coding exercises, and review their assignments or projects. Daily responsibilities include preparing lesson materials, demonstrating coding techniques, troubleshooting code issues, and providing personalized feedback to help each learner progress. The mentor will foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment, encourage questions, and adapt explanations to different learning styles and age groups. The role also involves tracking learner progress, communicating key updates to the academic team, and suggesting improvements to teaching materials based on student feedback and performance.

Qualifications

  • Strong web development skills, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with the ability to build and explain basic web applications.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring, especially with children or teenagers, and the ability to simplify technical concepts for different age groups.
  • Clear, professional communication skills in English, with confidence leading interactive online sessions.
  • Comfort with online teaching tools and virtual classroom platforms, including screen sharing, chat, and collaborative coding environments.
  • Patience, empathy, and a learner-first mindset, with a commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, including reliable time management for US and UK shifts and consistent session preparation.
  • Relevant academic background (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field) or equivalent practical experience in web development.
  • Previous experience in online education, coding bootcamps, or edtech organizations is an advantage.
