Role OverviewAs a Freelance Odia Proofreader, you will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and refining translated or newly generated Odia content. Your primary objective is to catch grammatical errors, structural inconsistencies, and awkward phrasing before the content goes live. This is a fully remote, project-based freelance contract with a highly flexible workflow.
Key Responsibilities- Linguistic Quality Assurance: Review Odia text for spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, syntax issues, and improper punctuation.
- Contextual & Cultural Accuracy: Ensure that translated localized content reads naturally in native Odia and carries the correct tone, bypassing literal or robotic machine translations.
- Fact & Formatting Checks: Verify names, dates, numbers, links, and formatting layouts against the original English source files to maintain structural parity.
- Tone Alignment: Adapt and align the voice of the text according to target demographics (ranging from professional/technical to engaging/conversational).
- Cross-Collaboration: Provide constructive feedback to the internal content creation team to consistently elevate the quality of upcoming writing pipelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications- Native-Level Proficiency: Exceptional native command over written and spoken Odia (Oriya), alongside strong professional comprehension of English.
- Proven Experience: 1–3 years of experience in proofreading, copyediting, translation, or content writing in Odia (experience with digital blogs, SEO content, or marketing collateral is a huge plus).
- Attention to Detail: An eagle eye for subtle nuances, typos, incorrect compound letters (Juktakshara), and stylistic flaws.
- Tech-Savvy Workflow: Proficiency with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and standard Odia typing systems/fonts.
- Reliability: Strong respect for project milestones and the ability to turn around clean deliverables within tight timeframes.
