Job Description

Job Summary

The Nursing Superintendent will be responsible for establishing, leading, and managing all nursing services for a newly commissioned 250-bedded multispecialty hospital. The role involves nursing manpower planning, recruitment, training, quality management, NABH compliance, patient care excellence, policy implementation, and overall operational efficiency of the nursing department.

Key Responsibilities

Hospital & Nursing Setup

  • Lead the complete nursing setup for a new 250-bedded multispecialty hospital.
  • Develop nursing department structure, staffing models, and operational workflows.
  • Establish nursing policies, protocols, SOPs, and patient care standards.
  • Coordinate with hospital administration during commissioning and operationalization phases.
  • Ensure readiness of wards, ICUs, OTs, Emergency, Cath Lab, and specialty units.

Manpower Planning & Recruitment

  • Develop department-wise nursing manpower plans based on bed strength and specialty requirements.
  • Drive recruitment, onboarding, deployment, and retention of nursing staff.
  • Ensure optimum nurse-patient ratios as per regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Conduct workforce forecasting and succession planning.

Quality & Accreditation

  • Lead NABH and other quality accreditation initiatives.
  • Monitor nursing quality indicators and patient safety metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control practices, medication safety, and clinical protocols.
  • Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives across nursing services.

Clinical Operations

  • Supervise day-to-day nursing operations across all departments.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, and evidence-based patient care.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction and address service-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with consultants, clinical departments, and support services to improve patient outcomes.

Training & Development

  • Develop and implement nursing orientation and competency programs.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on clinical skills, patient safety, and quality standards.
  • Identify learning needs and create professional development plans for nursing staff.
  • Mentor Nursing Supervisors, Ward In-Charges, and nursing teams.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
  • Monitor utilization of nursing resources and consumables.
  • Ensure cost-effective deployment of manpower and equipment.

Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure compliance with Nursing Council norms and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain nursing documentation and records as per hospital policies.
  • Participate in hospital committees including Quality, Infection Control, Patient Safety, and Ethics Committees.

Qualification

  • B.Sc Nursing (Mandatory)
  • M.Sc Nursing / Nursing Administration (Preferred)
  • Valid Nursing Council Registration

Experience

  • 12–18+ years of nursing experience in reputed multispecialty hospitals.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Nursing Superintendent / Deputy Nursing Superintendent.
  • Prior experience in commissioning or setting up a new hospital will be highly preferred.
  • Exposure to NABH-accredited hospitals is mandatory.
