NPD Intern BESS (Battery Energy Storage System)

As an intern you will directly report to Founder & CEO

Frigate is a manufacturing execution platform connecting global buyers with Indian manufacturers, across machining, sheet metal, casting, and electronics. This role is a new build, not a slot in an existing team.

About The Role

Frigate is developing a containerized BESS product from the ground up, and you'll own the New Product Development work on it end to end, working directly with the Founder & CEO. This isn't a shadow internship. You're responsible for real deliverables — mechanical layout, vendor coordination, BOM, and prototype build — on a live product, not a training exercise.

What You'll Work On

• Container/enclosure design: structural layout, weatherproofing, thermal management, rack mounting for battery modules
• Electrical systems integration: battery rack layout, BMS/PCS coordination, cabling and switchgear specification
• Thermal and fire safety: cooling system specification and safety-standard research (IEC/UL/BIS/CEA as applicable) — for a product category where getting this wrong isn't an option
• Vendor coordination: work directly with Frigate's fabrication, sheet metal, and electrical vendor network to source components and sub-assemblies
• BOM and costing: build and maintain a full bill of materials with vendor quotes
• Documentation: technical specs, design-review notes, DFM considerations
• Prototype build coordination and test planning
  
  

What We Need

• Final-year student or recent graduate — Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Energy Engineering
• Working CAD skills (SolidWorks / Fusion 360 / AutoCAD)
• Basic grounding in electrical/power systems, or the ability to pick it up fast
• Comfortable owning ambiguity and driving a workstream between check-ins — this is a 0-to-1 build, not a task list
• Based in or willing to relocate to Trichy
  
  

Strong plus

• Prior exposure to battery systems, EV powertrains, or renewable energy (academic projects, EV competitions like SAE/Formula Student, prior internships)
• Any hands-on fabrication, prototyping, or vendor-facing experience
