Key Result Areas/Accountabilities

Supporting Actions

1. Product Development

Lead development of Catalogue designs and Customer Designs from scratch to production ready development

• Knowledge of Global Cycle industry designs and trends.
• Ensure complete technical drawing, BOM and Autodesk design with specifications are made
• Work with a team of Designers and draftsman for 3D and Manufacturing drawings creation in specific TATs
• Manage multiple programs under development with timelines
• Build capability towards product design knowledge and capability within Business Unit
• Work closely with HoD Process and Quality for testing and product qualification of New Developments
• Know and work on strengths of Hindalco to know which products can be designed within and which can be designed from outside resources
• Work with HoD Process and Vendor Development to facilitate NPD and qualification through designs and technical support on child/forged parts on customer designs
• Evaluate proposed engineering changes for impact and feasibility, on the product and process prior to incorporation
• Explore design change opportunities to improve manufacturing, product reliability and/or cost

2.Intellectual Property

Work towards creating IP products for Hindalco Cycles

• Ensure continuous unique design development in accordance to the trending market requirements that will be USP of HIL.
• Ensure each new product design is IP protected through contract and with support of legal team
• Work with Metallurgy R&D for development of Possible new alloys
• Ensure designs of Hindalco and co-created designs are appropriately IP protected

3.Customer and Market trends

• To ensure customer partnership for Co-creation of Designs and quality
• Work with Customers and industry experts to keep revamping catalogue of Component designs for Hindalco.
• Work towards NPD of newer trends of design with specific drawings
• Continuous Research and development on Newer trends within Cycling industry in Gear Set, EDU sets and various other componentry
• Work with Industry components suppliers – Shimano, Bosc, Bafang – for Co-creation/ partnership on design sharing
• Ensure designs meet customer quality requirements, global standards for testing and product qualification
• To institutionalize system for Customer satisfaction and Customer Centricity

4.Planning and Execution

• Lead a team of Designer and draftsmen to ensure proper delivery of required outputs to other departments
• Manage multiple programs with Full product and child part developments ensuring customer timeline deliverables
• Conducts feasibility studies and complete compliance matrix for the product and established risks and opportunities
• Supports prototype sample builds, establishes proto control plan and help process head to ensure end customer requirements are met
• Coordinates preparing quotation packages and making engineering drawings as required to facilitate prototypes
• Detailed Feasibility study and interaction with vendors, customer to meet best possible dimension & tolerance.

5.Establish documentation and systems

• Conducts Product Design Reviews with Cross functional teams
• Review and development of prints as per Hindalco and Global standards
• Responsible for making sure the Documentation related to engineering deliverables (including Design FMEA) is up to date.

6.People development and engagement

• Drive improvement of functional capability
• Capacity building (Knowledge, skill, and attitude) of NPD Team and peers and keep abreast with latest in the Cycles field to deliver proactive designs for customers.
• Groom design engineers to ensure capability towards catering to customer requirements independently.
