Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage conditions such as:
  • Stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, neuropathies, migraines, neuromuscular disorders, etc.
  • Perform and interpret neurological examinations and diagnostics (e.g., EEG, EMG, NCV, MRI brain/spine).
  • Develop treatment plans including pharmacologic, rehabilitative, and lifestyle-based interventions.
  • Manage both inpatient and outpatient neurological care.
  • Collaborate with neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, physiatrists, and ICU teams for multidisciplinary care.

2. Procedures

  • Supervise or perform neurodiagnostic procedures such as:
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Nerve conduction studies (NCS)
  • Electromyography (EMG)
  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Review and interpret advanced neuroimaging (CT/MRI/PET scans).

3. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities(If in a teaching hospital/college)

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and neurology residents.
  • Conduct clinical bedside rounds, case discussions, and seminars.
  • Guide students in thesis work, clinical research, and journal club presentations.
  • Participate in curriculum development and clinical assessments.

4. Research & Continuing Medical Education

  • Participate in clinical research projects related to neurology.
  • Publish case studies and original research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Attend and present at national/international neurology conferences.
  • Engage in CME activities and update knowledge of the latest neurological advances.

5. Administrative & Interdisciplinary Tasks

  • Maintain detailed clinical documentation and records.
  • Contribute to hospital quality initiatives and clinical audits.
  • Participate in stroke codes, neuro-emergency response, and interdisciplinary case boards.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS + MD in Internal Medicine or equivalent
  • DM / DNB in Neurology from a recognized institution
  • Valid registration with Medical Council (State/National)

Desirable:

  • Fellowship or subspecialty training (e.g., Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular Medicine)
  • Teaching experience in a medical college or DNB/DM program
  • Prior experience in neuro ICU or stroke unit

Skills & Competencies

  • Expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of neurological disorders
  • Proficiency in interpreting neurodiagnostic tests and scans
  • Strong decision-making and critical thinking
  • Empathy and effective communication with patients and families
  • Teaching, mentoring, and academic aptitude (if in an educational institution)
  • Ability to work in a team across specialties (ICU, psychiatry, rehab, etc.)
