Job Description

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking experienced Switch Engineers to support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network switching systems within enterprise and telecom environments. These roles are crucial for ensuring smooth data and voice traffic flow, network stability, and security. The ideal candidates will have extensive experience managing Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, supporting network upgrades, and troubleshooting performance issues to maintain operational continuity and support strategic network initiatives.

Software Requirements

Required Software Proficiency:

  • Cisco Catalyst / Nexus switches (or equivalents) — hands-on experience with configuration, troubleshooting, and management of enterprise-grade switches
  • CLI (command-line interface) — proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting switches via CLI commands
  • Network monitoring tools: SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, or similar — experience supporting system health monitoring and incident detection
  • SNMP and Syslog — basic understanding supporting device management and log analysis
  • Network segmentation and VLAN configuration support supporting enterprise environments

Preferred Software Skills:

  • Network automation scripting: Python, Ansible — for automating configurations and updates (preferred)
  • Network security tools: ACLs, port security configuration support
  • Support for network management platforms supporting multi-vendor environments (preferred)

Overall Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support Layer 2 / Layer 3 switches supporting enterprise voice and data traffic
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve outages proactively
  • Support network upgrades, device firmware updates, and configuration migrations with minimal service disruption
  • Collaborate with network, security, and data center teams to optimize network architecture and security protocols
  • Support network security policies, including ACLs and port security settings, ensuring compliance with corporate standards
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, diagrams, change logs, and incident reports
  • Participate in network planning, capacity management, and system performance tuning activities
  • Support troubleshooting, incident response, and root cause analysis to minimize downtime and operational risks
  • Support automation initiatives for network provisioning, configuration, and management processes

Technical Skills (By Category)

  • Networking & Devices (Essential):
    • Cisco Catalyst / Nexus switches or equivalent — configuration, management, troubleshooting
    • VLANs, STP, RSTP — network topology support and loop prevention
    • Basic understanding of routing protocols supporting Layer 3 configurations (e.g., OSPF)

  • Tools & Platforms (Essential):
    • CLI commands, SNMP, Syslog support supporting device management and log collection
    • Network monitoring tools supporting proactive health checks and alerting

Experience Requirements

  • 7-15 years supporting enterprise or telecom network environments supporting Layer 2/3 switching systems
  • Proven experience troubleshooting enterprise switching deployments, outages, and configuration changes
  • Familiarity with network upgrades, firmware updates, and migration support
  • Ability to support multi-vendor, heterogeneous network environments supporting operational resilience
  • Support experience supporting network security policies and compliance standards (preferred)

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Install, configure, and support enterprise switches supporting traffic flow and secure network access
  • Monitor network health, troubleshoot incidents, and resolve configuration or connectivity issues efficiently
  • Support network upgrades, firmware patches, and migrations supporting operational continuity
  • Collaborate with network, security, and operations teams to optimize network performance and security
  • Maintain documentation including network diagrams, device configurations, and incident logs
  • Conduct performance troubleshooting, log analysis, and root cause investigations
  • Support automation initiatives for device configuration, firmware management, and network provisioning
  • Participate in regular team meetings, change planning, and incident review processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 7-15 years supporting enterprise or telecom network switching systems (Layer 2/3)
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent supporting network management and security
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale, multi-vendor network environments supporting business-critical traffic
