IT Security Technology
Jefferies IT Security Technology / Global Information Security (GIS) team protects the firm's critical systems, sensitive information, and global operations against evolving cyber threats. GIS partners with Technology, Operations, Corporate functions, and the Business to embed security into day-to-day operations while supporting productivity, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience. GIS balances strong controls with efficiency and operates globally across the US, EMEA, and APAC to provide round-the-clock coverage
About The Role
Jefferies is seeking a Network Segmentation and Security Engineer to join the Information Security team. This is a hands-on engineering role with accountability for researching, designing, implementing, and supporting network security solutions with a strong focus on micro-segmentation. You will work closely with engineering, infrastructure, network, and application teams globally to align security requirements, influence technical decisions, and communicate strategy and architecture while helping protect the firm's technology assets.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with Illumio and micro-segmentation, along with solid exposure to network security controls such as firewall policy management, WAF, IPS, NDR, and related platforms. We value individuals who are highly motivated to learn, can execute with minimal supervision, and can effectively prioritize and communicate complex issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and manage Jefferies global Network Segmentation (Micro-segmentation) program leveraging Illumio and supporting workflow integrations (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Partner with Network Security Engineering on segmentation architecture, deployment strategy, and ongoing operational management.
- Implement micro-segmentation policy for applications and endpoints, ensuring secure, scalable designs aligned with business needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated network/security issues with urgency, applying strong prioritization and root-cause analysis.
- Support and integrate a broader network security control environment, including:
- Firewall policy management
- WAF, IPS, NDR
- Network Access Control (NAC) / ISE
- Web Browser Isolation
- Network Security Policy Management and related platforms
- Collaborate with Network Engineering/Operations and Security Engineering/Operations to embed security into network design and day-to-day operations.
- Engage Infrastructure and Application teams to align network security policies with application requirements and enterprise standards.
- Participate in an on-call / escalation model and respond to urgent incidents as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Significant hands-on experience with micro-segmentation, specifically Illumio (deployment, policy design, operations, troubleshooting).
- Strong foundation in networking and firewalling concepts and operational best practices.
- Proficiency with network troubleshooting and visibility tools (e.g., tcpdump, Wireshark, syslog, NetFlow, packet captures).
- Solid understanding of security fundamentals (e.g., intrusion detection concepts, incident response, encryption basics, network access controls, threat management, security controls).
- Strong knowledge of OSI model, subnetting, and CIDR notation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working effectively with global, cross-functional teams across time zones.
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to take ownership, mentor others, and drive issues to closure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating an Illumio environment at scale.
- Relevant certifications such as Illumio Core Associate/Specialist/Expert (SaaS or On-Prem), CCNA/CCNP, Security+, CCNA Security, or CISSP.
- Exposure to additional security/network platforms such as Check Point, Fortinet, Proofpoint, Cloudflare, F5 Silverline, SSL certificate management, or other Zero Trust/SASE products.
- Scripting experience (especially Python) is a plus.
