Job Description – Tier 3 Network Engineer (LAN/WAN Operations)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tier 3 Network Engineer with 10+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise LAN/WAN environments to provide advanced technical support, mentor junior engineers, and drive operational excellence within the Network Operations team. The role involves handling complex network issues, supporting new product/service launches, building automation, and ensuring high availability of critical network infrastructure.
The candidate will also play a key role in process improvement, documentation, team leadership, and client service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Network Support. Provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex network incidents across LAN, WAN, and enterprise network infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve high-impact issues involving routing, switching, and WAN technologies. Lead technical investigations and ensure rapid resolution during critical incidents.
Mentorship & Technical Leadership
Mentor and coach Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers, improving troubleshooting capabilities and technical depth. Conduct knowledge transfer sessions and technical workshops. Review escalations and ensure adherence to troubleshooting standards.
Network Operations & Service Delivery
Manage and support enterprise LAN/WAN environments, ensuring network availability and performance. Monitor network health and proactively address potential risks or service degradation. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
Product Launch & Documentation
Participate in new product or service launches, providing operational readiness inputs. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and operational documentation. Ensure smooth transition from engineering teams to operations.
Automation & Process Improvement
Identify opportunities for network automation and operational efficiency improvements. Develop scripts or automation workflows to reduce manual intervention and improve response times. Promote automation-first mindset across the operations team.
RCA & Operational Excellence
Conduct detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major incidents and recurring issues. Create and maintain runbooks and troubleshooting guides.
Implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid future incidents.
Telecommunications & Transport Technologies
Support and troubleshoot telecommunication transport systems, including:
DSL
T1 / DS3
Optical services
Satellite communication systems
Team & Shift Management
Plan and manage shift schedules for the network operations team to ensure 24x7 support coverage. Support team performance management, appraisals, and development plans. Maintain high team engagement and operational discipline.
Client Engagement & Performance Metrics
Track and drive client KPIs, SLAs, and operational metrics. Participate in service review meetings and ensure delivery against contractual obligations. Implement initiatives to improve customer satisfaction and operational performance.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of experience in Network Operations / Network Engineering roles.
Extensive experience in LAN/WAN environments within large enterprise or service provider networks.
Experience supporting 24x7 production network environments.
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in: Routing & Switching, WAN technologies, Network troubleshooting
Leadership & Soft Skills
Proven ability to mentor and guide junior engineers. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience managing shift-based operational teams. Ability to work effectively in high-pressure incident environments.
Preferred Qualifications / Certifications such as:
CCNP / CCIE
JNCIP
ITIL Foundation
Experience in network automation using Python, Ansible, or similar tools. Exposure to SD-WAN or modern network architectures.
