Role: Network Engineer

Job Description:
The Network Operations Engineer will manage, maintain, and monitor enterprise network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance. The role focuses exclusively on core network technologiesrouting, switching, wireless, WAN
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Monitoring & Incident Handling
- Monitor network health, capacity, and performance using NOC/NMS tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve L2-level incidents for:
- LAN (Layer-2 switching, VLANs, trunking)
- WAN & MPLS
- Wireless networks (controllers & access points)
- Handle escalations from L1 support; escalate to L3 as needed.
- Perform packet analysis and connectivity diagnostics where required.
2. Network Operations & Maintenance
- Perform configuration changes on switches, routers, wireless controllers, and WAN devices.
- Manage routine network operations including:
- VLAN creation & modifications
- Routing updates
- Link testing & bandwidth utilization checks
- Circuit turn-ups and troubleshooting
- Conduct periodic maintenance, firmware upgrades, and configuration backups.
- Update network documentation, diagrams, and device inventory regularly.
3. Network Configuration & Implementation
- Configure and support:
- VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, LACP
- Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
- DHCP, DNS, NTP (network-side configurations)
- Support deployment of new network sites, device replacements, and network migrations.
- Assist in optimizing network performance and resolving chronic issues.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare incident summaries and RCA documents.
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides for L1 teams.
- Generate daily/weekly network health and performance reports.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and wireless fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Cisco / Juniper / Arista switching & routing
- Wireless networks (Cisco, Aruba, etc.)
- MPLS, Leased Lines, Broadband, 4G/5G failover links
- Good knowledge of any network monitoring tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, ManageEngine.
- Ability to read and interpret packet captures (Wireshark/tcpdump).
- Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change).
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capability.
- Good communication and coordination with carriers/vendors.
- Able to work under pressure and in 24x7 rotational environments if required.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree
- Mandatory certifications: CCNA
- Preferred certifications:
- CCNP (Routing & Switching or Enterprise)
- JNCIA / JNCIS (Juniper)
- Cisco Catalyst Centre
- ITIL Foundation (optional)
Experience
- 37 years of hands-on experience in network operations, NOC, or enterprise routing & switching support.
