Role OverviewThe L3 Network Engineer Cisco s HPE is responsible for advanced troubleshooting,
design support, escalation handling, and performance optimization of enterprise switching infrastructure. This role focuses on Cisco Catalyst/Nexus and HPE Aruba/ProCurve switching platforms, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal network performance.
Key Responsibilities1.L3 Escalation s Advanced Troubleshooting
Handle L3 incidents escalated by L1/L2 teams for Cisco C HPE switches.
Diagnose complex switching issues including:
oSTP loops
oVLAN routing
oTrunking issues
oPort security violations
oMulticast traffic behavior
oInterface flaps, packet drops, CRC errors
Perform deep-dive troubleshooting using logs, packet captures, syslogs, NMS data.
2.Network Configuration s OptimizationConfigure and optimize:
oVLANs, SVIs
oEtherChannel / LACP
oHSRP/VRRP/GLBP
oQoS policies
oDHCP snooping, DAI, IP Source Guard
oPort security, MAC filtering
Optimize Layer-2/Layer-3 paths for performance and redundancy.
3.Cisco ExpertiseHands-on with:
Cisco Catalyst (2G60/3650/3850/GK series)Cisco Nexus (5K/7K/GK)
Routing C Switching protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP (basic), STP (RSTP, MSTP)
IOS C NX-OS upgrades, patches, golden image management.
4.HPE / Aruba Switching ExpertiseExperience with HPE ArubaOS, ProCurve, Aruba CX switches.
Configuration of:
oVSF/IRF stacking
o802.1X NAC integration
oRSPAN/ERSPAN
oVLAN C L3 routing
Apply security and performance best practices across HPE platforms.
5.Network Monitoring s AutomationMonitor performance using SolarWinds, PRTG, Aruba AirWave, Cisco DNA Center (if available).
Automate configuration tasks using Python, Ansible, or templates (optional but preferred).
6.Documentation s RCACreate incident reports, RCA documentation, topology diagrams, and implementation plans.
Maintain updated SOPs, configuration baselines, and switch inventory.
7.Change ManagementPlan and execute scheduled changes including:
oImage upgrades
oVLAN redesign
oTraffic migration
oNetwork expansion and switch replacement
Validate post-change health and rollback plans.
8.Security s ComplianceImplement network hardening on switches:
oAAA, TACACS+, RADIUS
oACLs, port-level security
oDHCP snooping C DAI
Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies.
Required Skills Technical SkillsStrong expertise in Cisco IOS/NX-OS C HPE ArubaOS switching.
Strong hands-on troubleshooting across L2/L3.
Understanding of routing protocols (OSPF/EIGRP/BGP).
Experience with STP, VLANs, LACP, VTP, HSRP, VRRP.
Familiarity with Wireshark/tcpdump packet analysis.
Solid Linux basics (optional but useful).

Experience in campus LAN, data center networks, or enterprise WAN environments.
