Job Description:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Level 4 Network Consultant to lead both the design and day-to-day operational management of our enterprise network infrastructure. This is a dual role combining high-level architecture and project design with hands-on support and operational ownership. The environment spans Juniper Mist/SSR routers, EX/MX switches, Apstra, Cisco Meraki switching and wireless, and Cisco WLC technologies. In addition, the role includes hands-on configuration, management, and troubleshooting of Juniper SD-WAN, Palo Alto Firewalls, and F5 Load Balancers. You will be expected to design and optimize complex routing (BGP), manage automation via Apstra, ensure network security, and support critical enterprise connectivity across multiple locations. This is a senior technical role suited for candidates who thrive in fast-paced, complex environments and who can own network reliability, security, and scalability from design to day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Design & Implementation: Lead the design, deployment, and optimization of scalable network solutions leveraging Juniper (Mist/SSR, EX, MX, Apstra) and Cisco (Meraki, WLC) platforms to meet organizational needs.
- Advanced Troubleshooting & Support: Provide Level 4 support and root cause analysis for complex network issues across LAN, WAN, wireless, and SDWAN environments.
- Automation & Orchestration: Utilize Juniper Apstra to automate network configuration, policy enforcement, and ensure intent-based networking practices.
- SD-WAN Operations: Deploy and maintain SD-WAN architectures, leveraging Juniper SD-WAN technologies for optimized WAN performance and resilience.
- Configuration and Troubleshooting of Complex BGP Routing Issues: Expertly configure, optimize, and resolve complex BGP routing challenges in multi-vendor, large-scale network infrastructures to ensure high availability and optimal routing performance.
- Performance Monitoring & Capacity Planning: Frequently monitor network health, analyze performance metrics, and plan capacity expansions or upgrades proactively.
- Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce network security best practices, including segmentation, access control, and vulnerability management using Palo Alto firewalls.
- Load Balancing & Traffic Management: Configure and manage F5 load balancers to ensure high availability and optimized application delivery.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain detailed network documentation, topology diagrams, runbooks, and conduct knowledge transfer sessions to elevate team expertise.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including security, systems engineering, and cloud teams, to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence.
- Vendor Management: Liaise with Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, and F5 support for escalations, software upgrades, and hardware lifecycle management.
- Travel & Availability: Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
- Operating System Knowledge: Experience with Windows and Linux environments will be a plus and is helpful for cross-platform troubleshooting and integration.
- Availability: Flexibility working occasional weekends and after-hours is required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive network engineering experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of:
- Juniper Technologies: Mist/SSR routers, EX switches, MX routers, Apstra automation platform.
- Cisco Technologies: Meraki switches, Meraki wireless solutions, Cisco WLC, SDWAN.
- Strong proficiency with network protocols: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN, VLAN, STP, QoS, DHCP, DNS.
- Good to have experience in network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, or similar).
- Deep understanding of wireless networking concepts including RF fundamentals, controller-based and cloud-managed WLANs.
- Hands-on experience with SDWAN and intent-based networking architectures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Relevant certifications (highly preferred):
- Juniper: JNCIP-Enterprise Routing & Switching. Good to have JNCIE-Enterprise Routing & Switching.
- Cisco: CCNP/CCIE Wireless, Meraki Network Associate/Professional.
Preferred Skills:
- Juniper Mist & SD-WAN expertise with hands-on experience in designing and managing scalable wireless and WAN solutions.
- Hands-on experience with BGP in complex multi-vendor environments.
- Experience configuring and managing Palo Alto firewalls for network security, segmentation, and threat prevention.
- Experience with F5 load balancers, including configuration, SSL offloading, and traffic optimization.
- Good to have familiarity with cloud networking integration (AWS, Azure).
- Ability to mentor and lead junior engineers.
- Experience with multi-vendor network environments and interoperability.
