Job Description

Job Description: Network Architect (Telecom / Service Provider)

Experience Range: 12 – 18+ Years

Location: India (Bangalore / Hybrid)

Position Type: Full-time, Permanent

Shift Pattern: General Shift (with exceptional flexibility required during major deployment windows or critical architectural overhauls)

Role Summary

We are seeking a visionary and technically profound Network Architect to spearhead the evolution, design, and long-term scaling of our Service Provider/Telecom network infrastructure. In this strategic role, you will own the architectural blueprints for our core transport, IP/MPLS backbone, peering edges, and next-generation access technologies. You will bridge the gap between business vision and engineering execution—evaluating multi-vendor technologies, optimization strategies, and introducing deterministic network automation architectures to ensure our fabric remains highly resilient, secure, and cost-efficient.

Key Responsibilities1. Architectural Strategy & Core Network Design
  • Architect, model, and issue High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) for next-generation IP Core, MPLS backbone, and peering edges across regional and national footprints.
  • Own the technical evolution of core routing platforms, transport layers (DWDM/OTN), and software-defined overlays (SD-WAN) to ensure multi-terabit capacity scaling.
  • Define traffic engineering policies, routing parameters (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), and resilience strategies (Segment Routing, SR-TE, RSVP-TE) to optimize data paths and secure sub-50ms failovers.
2. Technology Evaluation, RFI/RFP & Vendor Governance
  • Drive the evaluation of emerging telecom paradigms (e.g., Cloud-native Telco cores, EVPN-VXLAN architectures, Open RAN, or 400G/800G optical transport fabrics).
  • Author comprehensive Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Information (RFIs), leading the validation, Proof of Concept (PoC) testing, and selection of hardware, software, and silicon architectures.
  • Collaborate closely with Network Planning and Finance teams to drive down Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through strategic hardware choices and optimal CapEx/OpEx allocation.
3. Network Automation & AI-Native Telemetry Design
  • Steer the network away from fragile, legacy CLI-driven operations toward a modern infrastructure-as-code (IaC) execution model.
  • Design architectural guardrails for network automation agents, championing a Deterministic First, AI Second execution model where automated validation and policy-bound execution paths run safely alongside AI diagnostics.
  • Architect network telemetry and observability frameworks (using gNMI, streaming telemetry, or advanced flow collectors) to enable self-healing and proactive anomaly detection.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership & Operational Liaison
  • Act as the ultimate authority for architectural guidelines, mentoring Senior NOC and Infrastructure Engineering teams to ensure clean deployments that match design parameters.
  • Provide consulting support for unique, highly complex Tier-1 enterprise or wholesale customer design requests.
  • Define and audit security hardening baselines across all edge and core networking nodes to protect the infrastructure against edge exploits and distributed routing attacks (e.g., DDoS mitigation, RPKI enforcement).
Technical Skills & RequirementsMust-Have Technical Expertise:
  • Carrier-Scale Routing Mastery: In-depth, expert-level understanding of Service Provider routing mechanics, including massive BGP architectures (communities, route reflectors, confederations) and complex IGP engineering.
  • Next-Gen MPLS & Segment Routing: Advanced expertise designing fabrics utilizing Segment Routing (SR-MPLS / SRv6), Traffic Engineering (SR-TE), L3VPNs, and Carrier Supporting Carrier (CSC) structures.
  • Multi-Vendor Ecosystems: Deep familiarity with flagship carrier hardware architectures, line-cards, and operating systems (e.g., Cisco IOS-XR / ASR & NCS series; Juniper Junos / MX & PTX series; Nokia SR-OS / 7750 series).
  • Automation Frameworks: Practical architectural understanding of programmable networking toolsets, including YANG modeling, NETCONF/RESTCONF, Ansible, Python, and automated network validation tools.
  • Transport Synergy: Strong grasp of how the IP Layer interacts with underlying optical transport layers (DWDM, coherent optics, IPoDWDM).
Preferred / Advantageous Skills:
  • Experience designing cloud-connectivity nodes or telco data center fabrics utilizing EVPN-VXLAN.
  • Understanding of cellular core backhaul architectures (5G User Plane Function (UPF) transport alignment).
Qualifications & Certifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Telecommunications, ECE, CSE, IT, or equivalent core field).
  • Certifications (The Highest Technical Baseline Expected):
  • Expert-Level Certification is highly valued: Cisco CCIE (Service Provider / Enterprise Infrastructure) Active/Emeritus status, Juniper JNCIE-SP, or Nokia Network Routing Scholar.
Behavioural Attributes
  • Strategic Foresight: The ability to look 3 to 5 years into the future of technology trends, distinguishing between fleeting marketing hype and genuine, scalable infrastructure innovations.
  • Inspirational Communicator: Exceptional capability to articulate complex, abstract technological architectures into crisp, value-oriented business narratives for the executive leadership board (CXOs).
  • Engineering Rigor: An absolute devotion to design clarity, security principles, and standardization—refusing to tolerate short-sighted technical debt.
