Job Description

Joining NORDEN means becoming part of a global organisation where technical know-how and commercial operations meet. You will gain direct exposure to real transport projects, supporting everything from early feasibility to execution.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across engineering, operations and chartering, as well as external partners. We work in an open and pragmatic environment where ideas are shared, decisions are made quickly and feedback is part of how we improve.

This is a role where you can build strong fundamentals in transport engineering while being part of projects within renewable energy and project cargo. You will be located in our office in Chennai, India.

The task that awaits you

As a Naval Architect, you will support the planning and verification of transport solutions for heavy and oversized cargo. You will work with stability assessments, lashing and lifting arrangements, and contribute to ensuring that operations are carried out safely and efficiently.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing lashing and securing plans, lifting arrangements and transport engineering documentation for project and heavy-lift cargoes.
  • Assisting in structural load spread assessments for cargoes transported on bulk carriers and other vessel types.
  • Conducting vessel stability and strength evaluations related to deck and hold cargo operations.
  • Supporting feasibility studies, transport calculations and risk assessments during project planning and execution.
  • Preparing engineering drawings, technical calculations and reports for class and owner approvals.
  • Coordinating with operations teams, port captains, chartering, shipyards and external consultants on transport solutions.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering procedures and technical documentation.

What you bring

You are a curious and detail-oriented engineer who enjoys working with complex transport scenarios and translating theory into practical solutions. You are motivated to learn, collaborate and manage your tasks in a team-based environment.

In addition, we imagine that you:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
  • Have 2–4 years of experience within naval architecture, marine transport engineering, offshore or heavy-lift/project cargo environments.
  • Bring a solid understanding of lashing, lifting, vessel stability and cargo securing principles.
  • Are familiar with international standards and regulations such as IMO CSS Code, DNV or other classification society guidelines.
  • Have experience with engineering and design tools such as:
  • AutoCAD for 2D drafting and drawings.
  • Rhino or similar tools for 3D modelling and cargo arrangements.
  • ANSYS or equivalent FEA tools for structural and load spread analysis.
  • Advanced Excel for engineering calculations and reporting.
  • MS Project or similar tools for planning workflows.
  • Understand class rules, IACS requirements and industry standards related to project cargo transport.
  • Communicate clearly in English and work well across teams and stakeholders.
