Job Summary
The MYP English Teacher will inspire students through dynamic instruction grounded in the IB MYP framework. This role requires deep knowledge of English literature, language analysis, and global contexts. The teacher will foster creativity, critical thinking, and communication while ensuring alignment with IB pedagogical approaches.
Core Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning
- Deliver high-quality English Language and Literature lessons to students in Grades 610, using inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches.
- Design interdisciplinary units that reflect MYP's Global Contexts, Key Concepts, and Related Concepts.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies that accommodate diverse learners and differentiate for learning needs and styles.
- Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills development within units to support academic and personal growth.
- Utilize real-world texts and multimedia to enhance engagement and relevance.
- Planning and Curriculum Development
- Develop unit planners using the MYP planner template in collaboration with the subject and interdisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to the vertical and horizontal alignment of the English curriculum across grade levels.
- Ensure all lesson plans and assessments are mapped to MYP objectives and assessment criteria.
- Support students in understanding and achieving subject-specific learning goals.
- Assessment and Reporting
- Design balanced formative and summative assessments aligned to MYP objectives and rubrics.
- Provide timely, constructive, and differentiated feedback to support student progress.
- Maintain comprehensive records of student achievement and growth.
- Prepare detailed term-end report cards and attend student-led conferences and parent-teacher interactions.
- Student Development and Support
- Promote an inclusive and positive classroom culture where students feel safe, respected, and inspired.
- Serve as a Homeroom Teacher or Advisory Mentor, supporting students social-emotional wellbeing.
- Encourage students to develop voice, choice, and ownership in their learning journeys.
- Prepare students for interdisciplinary units (IDUs), personal projects, and community service engagement.
- Collaboration and Professional Development
- Actively participate in departmental, MYP, and whole-school meetings.
- Collaborate with subject colleagues and other departments to enhance interdisciplinary learning.
- Engage in continuous professional development, including IB-recognized workshops and training.
- Reflect on teaching practices through peer observation and feedback.
- School Life and Community Engagement
- Participate in school events, field trips, exhibitions, and inter-house activities.
- Support school initiatives aligned with IB Learner Profile attributes and the school's mission.
- Foster parent engagement through timely communication and academic updates.
Required Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in English, Literature, or related field.
- B.Ed. or international teaching certification.
- Minimum 3 years of experience teaching English at the middle or secondary school level.
- Experience with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with MYP assessment objectives, criteria, and eAssessment preparation is a plus.
