We are seeking an experienced MS SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in managing enterprise-scale SQL Server environments and executing database migrations from on-premises infrastructure to cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SQL Server administration, Azure cloud services, high availability and disaster recovery solutions, performance tuning, security, and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and maintain MS SQL Server databases (2012/2016/2019/2022).
- Plan and execute end-to-end database migrations from on-premises environments to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VM, and AWS RDS for SQL Server.
- Design and implement database upgrade and migration strategies with minimal downtime and business impact.
- Manage backup, restore, disaster recovery (DR), and high availability (HA) solutions.
- Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and optimize SQL Server performance.
- Perform query tuning, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
- Implement database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance standards.
- Automate routine DBA activities using T-SQL, PowerShell, and monitoring tools.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams during migration and support activities.
- Create migration runbooks, operational documentation, and provide post-migration support.
- Participate in production support, incident management, and root cause analysis.
Required Technical Skills Database Administration
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server architecture and administration.
- SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades.
- Backup and recovery strategies including Point-in-Time Recovery.
- Database monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Experience with SQL Server maintenance and health checks.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Always On Availability Groups.
- Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
- Log Shipping and Replication.
- Disaster Recovery planning, testing, and implementation.
Cloud & Migration
- Experience migrating databases from on-premises environments to Azure.
- Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VM.
- Azure Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Data Migration Assistant (DMA).
- Online and Offline migration methodologies.
- Post-migration validation, optimization, and cloud sizing.
Security & Compliance
- SQL Server security, logins, roles, and permissions.
- Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
- SSL/TLS implementation and auditing.
- Compliance and governance standards.
Scripting & Automation
- Strong T-SQL scripting skills.
- PowerShell scripting preferred.
- Automation of backups, monitoring, maintenance, and reporting tasks.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for databases.
- Knowledge of AWS RDS for SQL Server.
- Exposure to NoSQL databases and Azure Cosmos DB.
