ABOUT COMMS FOR A CAUSE
Comms for a Cause (C4AC) is a queer, trans, neurodivergent-led feminist organization building communications and digital security infrastructure for movements. We operate through two interconnected models: C4AC Labs (paid comms, design, and tech services for values-aligned organizations) and C4AC Foundation (pro bono support for grassroots movements doing urgent, high-risk work).
We believe movements deserve to be visible without being vulnerable, resourced without being extractable, and powerful without being left unprotected. Our work is rooted in intersectional feminism, abolitionist tech, and redistributive economics.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
We're looking for a Movement Tech Developer aka Full Stack Developer to join our small, dynamic team and support the technical development of our digital infrastructure. This role is critical to scaling C4AC's work, building websites for movement organizations, maintaining our own platforms, and developing new interactive digital tools that serve queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, and feminist communities.
You'll work under the supervision of our Co-Founder & Co-ED of Tech and Security, and work closely with the broader C4AC team to build beautiful, accessible, secure websites, platforms, and tools that serve movements under pressure.
We don't look at it as regular tech and coding work. You will be building infrastructure that protects people.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Primary Responsibilities:
WHO YOU ARE
Required Experience & Skills:
Personal Qualities & Values:
You identify as queer, trans, non-binary, neurodivergent, and/or disabled person.
This is part of our affirmative hiring policy. We centre the people most impacted by the systems we're trying to change.
You align with C4AC's intersectional feminist values.
You understand that justice isn't single-issue, it's about caste, race, gender, sexuality, disability, class, and more. You're committed to building tech that reflects that complexity and serves the most marginalized, not just the most visible.
You understand and stand for justice-centered, feminist tech.
You believe technology isn't neutral. You know that code, platforms, and digital infrastructure can either reinforce systems of oppression or help dismantle them. You're here to build the latter.
You care about movements, not just code.
You understand that the websites you build aren't just digital products; they're infrastructure that protects people, amplifies voices, and builds power.
You value accessibility and inclusion.
You don't see accessibility as a checkbox. You see it as a political and practical necessity, and you're committed to building platforms that work for everyone, including people with disabilities, people using assistive technologies, and people navigating low-bandwidth contexts.
You're kind, empathetic, and patient in your communication.
We're a team of both tech and non-tech people, and we ask everyone to be patient with what each person knows and doesn't know. We value clear, compassionate communication over technical gatekeeping. If someone doesn't understand something, we explain it without judgment, without condescension. That's how we build together.
You communicate clearly and proactively.
You're comfortable working remotely, asking questions when you need clarity, and keeping the team updated on your progress.
You're comfortable with ambiguity and iteration.
You can work with evolving project scopes, adapt to feedback, and problem-solve creatively when technical challenges arise.
You're eager to learn and grow.
You don't need to know everything on Day 1. You're open to learning new tools, experimenting with new approaches, and collaborating with the team to build your skills.
