Job Title: Underwriter - USA
Role Overview
The Underwriter will review, condition, and underwrite mortgage loan files in accordance with established company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound decision-making ability to assess risk and approve eligible loans.
Key Responsibilities
Loan Underwriting & Risk Assessment
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications for eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Evaluate all loan data, appraisal reports, credit reports, inspections, and supporting documents.
- Assess borrower qualifications based on the 4Cs of Underwriting: Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital.
- Conduct detailed income, asset, liability, and cash flow analysis.
- Calculate required funds for closing and reserve requirements as per guidelines.
- Review Loan-to-Value (LTV), Debt-to-Income (DTI), and other underwriting ratios.
Loan Approval & Conditions Management
- Make independent underwriting decisions based on HUD, company, and investor guidelines.
- Issue approvals, suspensions, or denials with clear rationale.
- Sign off conditions and clear stipulations within TAT defined by management.
- Provide final underwriting approval on mortgage loans.
System & Process Management
- Manage loan files using Encompass LOS and other underwriting platforms.
- Ensure accurate completion of required forms, documentation, and audit trails.
- Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks.
Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate underwriting decisions effectively with processors, advisors, and internal teams.
- Work closely with management on escalated or complex loan scenarios.
- Deliver high levels of service to internal and external stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Suggest process improvements, quality enhancements, and policy recommendations.
- Support internal audits and compliance reviews as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Conventional and/or Government Mortgage Underwriting.
- Strong understanding of US mortgage underwriting guidelines.
- Experience in end-to-end underwriting processes.
Preferred Skills
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
- Knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and HUD guidelines.

- Experience with mortgage LOS systems like Encompass.
