Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on LifeAsia Technical Lead to drive development and enhancement of Policy Administration Systems (PAS). The role involves leading a small team of 34 LifeAsia developers while actively contributing to development on Smart/400 (AS400). The ideal candidate should combine strong technical expertise with the ability to guide the team and ensure high-quality delivery. Takaful experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-on Development (Core Responsibility)

• Actively contribute to development and customization of LifeAsia-based PAS.
• Work on COBOL, CL, JCL, and DB2/Oracle within Smart/400 (AS400) environment.
• Develop and enhance modules across policy lifecycle (Policy Admin System, New Business, Policy Servicing, Claims, Billing).
• Debug, optimize, and ensure performance of batch jobs and online processes.

LifeAsia & PAS Development

• Drive development of Policy Administration System (PAS) using LifeAsia.
• Work closely on requirement analysis, technical design, and solution implementation.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, design principles, and best practices.

Team Leadership (34 Developers)

• Lead and mentor a small team of LifeAsia developers.
• Allocate tasks, review code, and ensure quality delivery.
• Provide technical guidance and resolve complex issues faced by the team.

Smart/400 (AS400) Expertise

• Manage development activities on Smart/400 platform.
• Handle batch processing, job scheduling, and performance tuning.
• Ensure system stability and reliability in production environments.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Collaborate with business stakeholders, BA teams, and other technical teams.
• Support sprint planning, estimation, and timely delivery of releases.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for the module/team.

Support & Maintenance

• Provide support for production issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Drive continuous improvements and system enhancements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills (Must-Have)

• Strong hands-on experience in LifeAsia development.
• Expertise in Smart/400 (AS400 / IBM i) environment.
• Proficiency in COBOL, CL, JCL, DB2/Oracle.
• Strong understanding of Policy Administration Systems (PAS) and insurance lifecycle.
• Experience in development and customization of core insurance systems.

Experience (Must-Have)

• Proven experience in PAS development (LifeAsia preferred).
• Experience leading a small team (34 developers).
• Hands-on involvement in end-to-end development lifecycle.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Ability to lead by example with a hands-on approach.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

Domain Knowledge (Preferred)

• Experience in Takaful (Islamic insurance) domain.
• Understanding of Takaful models and processes.

Good to Have

• Experience in system integration or API exposure.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Exposure to modernization initiatives or cloud platforms.

Experience Required

• 8-10+ years of overall IT experience.
• 7+ years of relevant LifeAsia development experience.
• 2-3 as Technical Lead
• Strong experience in Smart/400 / AS400.
• Experience managing a small development team.
