Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Modular Furniture Technical Designer with a strong understanding of modular furniture construction, manufacturing processes, and production-level technical drawings.

The ideal candidate should be proficient in preparing drilling drawings, cutting lists, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and detailed manufacturing drawings. They must understand the technical aspects of modular furniture, including panel sizing, hardware placement, joinery, edge banding, and assembly requirements.

This role requires someone who can translate furniture designs into accurate, manufacturing-ready technical documentation while ensuring material optimization, production accuracy, and smooth coordination between the design and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Drawings & Detailing

  • Prepare detailed technical drawings for modular kitchens, wardrobes, TV units, storage units, and other modular furniture.
  • Develop manufacturing-ready drawings with accurate dimensions, sections, elevations, and assembly details.
  • Prepare panel-wise drawings and component details required for production.
  • Ensure all drawings are technically feasible and aligned with manufacturing standards.

2. Drilling Drawings & Hardware Detailing

  • Prepare precise drilling drawings for CNC and other applicable drilling operations.
  • Understand drilling patterns, hole positions, bore depths, and hardware installation requirements.
  • Detail hardware such as hinges, drawer channels, lift-up mechanisms, connectors, dowels, minifix fittings, and other modular furniture accessories.
  • Ensure drilling positions and hardware specifications are compatible with the intended assembly method.

3. Cut Lists & Material Optimization

  • Generate accurate panel-wise cutting lists for manufacturing.
  • Specify panel dimensions, thicknesses, material types, and edge-banding requirements.
  • Understand cutting allowances, grain direction, panel orientation, and material utilization.
  • Coordinate with production teams to minimize material wastage and reduce manufacturing errors.

4. Bill of Materials (BOM) Preparation

  • Prepare detailed BOMs covering boards, laminates, edge bands, hardware, accessories, and other required components.
  • Calculate material quantities based on approved designs and technical specifications.
  • Ensure BOM accuracy and consistency with technical drawings and cutting lists.
  • Support material estimation, costing, procurement, and production planning.

5. Modular Furniture Technical Knowledge

  • Have a strong understanding of modular furniture construction, carcass design, shutters, drawers, shelves, partitions, and internal storage systems.
  • Understand different board materials, including plywood, MDF, HDHMR, particle board, and other engineered wood products.
  • Be familiar with edge-banding specifications, panel thicknesses, joinery methods, clearances, tolerances, and assembly techniques.
  • Understand hardware compatibility, load requirements, and practical installation constraints.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues before drawings are released for production.

6. Production Coordination & Quality Control

  • Coordinate with design, manufacturing, procurement, and installation teams.
  • Clarify technical queries raised by production and assembly teams.
  • Verify drawings, cutting lists, drilling details, and BOMs before releasing them for manufacturing.
  • Identify discrepancies between design intent and manufacturing feasibility and recommend practical solutions.
  • Help reduce production errors, material wastage, rework, and installation issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Design, Interior Design, Furniture Design, Production Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in modular furniture technical design, furniture manufacturing, or production detailing.
  • Strong knowledge of modular furniture construction and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience preparing drilling drawings, cutting lists, BOMs, and production drawings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other relevant furniture design and manufacturing software.
  • Good understanding of furniture hardware, board materials, edge banding, and assembly methods.
  • Strong dimensional accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret design drawings and convert them into production-ready documentation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CNC-based furniture manufacturing and drilling systems.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM workflows and production optimization.
  • Familiarity with software such as TopSolid'Wood, Cabinet Vision, imos, Microvellum, or other modular furniture design and manufacturing tools.
  • Experience working with modular kitchen and wardrobe manufacturing.
  • Understanding of production planning, material costing, and hardware estimation.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a technically strong professional who understands how modular furniture is actually manufactured, not just how it looks in a drawing.

The candidate should be able to independently convert approved furniture designs into accurate technical drawings, drilling details, cutting lists, and BOMs that can be directly used by the manufacturing team.

Practical manufacturing knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to solve technical problems are essential for this role.
