Middle School History Educator (Grades 6–8) – Cambridge / IGCSE

Roles and Responsibilities

Subject Excellence and Delivery

  • Plan and deliver concept-driven History lessons aligned with the Cambridge Lower Secondary and IGCSE History frameworks.
  • Develop students understanding of historical events, timelines, causation, continuity, change, and significance.
  • Teach students to analyse sources, evidence, perspectives, and interpretations, in line with Cambridge expectations.
  • Prepare students for Cambridge-style assessments, focusing on source-based questions, structured responses, and historical reasoning.
  • Monitor and report student progress through regular assessments and observations.

Student Development

  • Encourage curiosity about the past and its connection to the present world.
  • Support students in developing research, writing, discussion, and analytical skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to support varied learning needs and abilities.
  • Collaborate with Grade Teachers, special educators, and parents to support student progress.
  • Facilitate enrichment opportunities such as Problem-Based learning, history projects, debates, exhibitions, and competitions.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Design assessments aligned with Cambridge assessment objectives, including source analysis, essays, and project work.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to help students improve historical understanding and exam skills.
  • Participate in moderation and benchmarking to ensure assessment consistency and rigour.

Administrative Excellence

  • Maintain lesson plans, attendance, and assessment records on the school management system.
  • Actively participate in curriculum planning, department meetings, and PTMs.
  • Ensure effective use and maintenance of subject-related resources.

Pastoral Care

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students to support engagement and confidence.
  • Support students overall well-being and escalate concerns appropriately.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in History / Social Sciences.
  • 2–5 years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Strong content and disciplinary knowledge, with awareness of recent developments in pedagogical practices in Social Sciences.
  • Experience with or understanding of the Cambridge / IGCSE History curriculum is preferred.
  • Strong grasp of historical skills, source-based learning, and inquiry-based teaching.
  • Ability to make history relevant, engaging, and accessible to young learners.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organisational skills.
