Merchandiser is a retail professional responsible for managing product inventory, layouts, and physical or digital displays to maximize sales and profitability. They bridge the gap between what a company stocks and what the customer ultimately sees, ensuring that the right products are available in the right quantities, at the right time, and at the right price point. Depending on the business structure, this role can focus heavily on visual display execution, analytical inventory forecasting, or a combination of both.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesDisplay and Layout Execution: Set up product displays, endcaps, and promotional materials according to corporate planograms and store layouts.Inventory Management: Conduct regular stock audits, monitor warehouse levels, and coordinate replenishment to prevent in-store or online stockouts.Stock Rotation: Maintain a pristine sales floor by tidying shelves, pricing items accurately, and rotating goods using FIFO (First In, First Out) methods to eliminate expired or damaged items.Trend Analysis: Analyze regional sales figures, consumer purchasing behaviors, and historical data to predict future product demand.Supplier Coordination: Collaborate with buyers and suppliers to negotiate profitable price points, terms, and delivery schedules.Competitor Monitoring: Visit rival stores to observe their promotional campaigns, display strategies, and pricing adjustments.Job Requirements and QualificationsExperience: Typically requires 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in retail, inventory management, or customer service.Education: High school diploma or GED is the minimum standard; however, an Associate or Bachelor's degree in business or marketing provides a competitive edge.Physical Stamina: Capability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long hours, and occasionally travel between multiple assigned store locations.Technical Skills: Literacy in digital inventory databases, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and planogram design software.Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication and relationship-building traits to work seamlessly with store managers, buyers, and vendors.
