ABOUT A-SQUARE MEP CONSULTANTS:
A-Square MEP Consultants is a Bengaluru-based MEP engineering consultancy founded in 2004, specialising in the design and coordination of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems for commercial, residential, industrial, and hospitality projects. We work with developers, architects, and contractors across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and beyond.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The MEP Design Intern will assist the engineering team in the design, drafting, and documentation of MEP systems for live projects. The intern will be trained progressively across all three MEP disciplines and will be expected to contribute to actual project deliverables under the supervision of senior engineers. This is a technical role — the intern will spend the majority of their time working on drawings, calculations, and project documentation.
PHASE-WISE RESPONSIBILITIES
Phase 1 — Months 1 & 2: Technical Induction & Drafting
Understanding MEP system layouts and how Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems are coordinated within a building. Learning to read and interpret architectural drawings, structural drawings, and MEP coordination drawings. Introduction to AutoCAD for 2D drafting — preparing floor plan layouts, schematic diagrams, and single-line drawings. Understanding basic HVAC concepts including ducting layouts, air handling units, fan coil units, and ventilation systems. Understanding electrical system basics including power distribution, lighting layouts, DB schedules, and cable routing. Understanding plumbing system basics including water supply, drainage, and firefighting layouts. Assisting senior engineers in preparing drawing sets for submission. Maintaining drawing registers and document logs.
Phase 2 — Months 3 & 4: Design Support & Documentation
Preparing and updating MEP design drawings based on inputs from senior engineers. Assisting in basic load calculations for electrical systems and heat load calculations for HVAC systems. Preparing equipment schedules, material take-off lists, and bill of quantities (BOQ) drafts. Drafting technical submittals, method statements, and design basis reports under guidance. Coordinating with the architectural and structural drawings to identify and flag clashes between MEP and other services. Learning to use drawing management systems and maintaining version control of project drawings. Preparing minutes of meetings and technical correspondence as directed.
Phase 3 — Months 5 & 6: Live Project Execution Support
Active contribution to live project drawing packages from concept to submission stage. Attending site visits to understand the practical implementation of MEP designs and correlating site conditions with design drawings. Coordinating with contractors, vendors, and clients under supervision for technical clarifications. Assisting in preparation of as-built drawing markups and site observation reports. Supporting the team in project progress tracking, drawing submission schedules, and client presentations. Independently handling assigned drawing tasks with review and sign-off from the senior engineer.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
Knowledge of basic MEP engineering concepts from academic study. Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D is mandatory. Knowledge of MEP design software such as Revit MEP, HAP, DIALux, or similar tools is an added advantage. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Basic understanding of NBC (National Building Code) and relevant Indian standards applicable to MEP systems. Proficiency in MS Office — Excel for BOQ and schedules, Word for reports, PowerPoint for presentations.
KEY DELIVERABLES DURING INTERNSHIP
By the end of 6 months the intern is expected to have independently drafted at least one complete MEP drawing package for a small to medium project under supervision, prepared BOQ and equipment schedules for at least one project, attended a minimum of 3 site visits and submitted site observation reports, demonstrated understanding of coordination between HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, and completed all assigned training modules and assessments.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
The intern will be formally evaluated at the end of Month 3 and Month 6 on the following parameters:
Technical accuracy of drawings and documents (40%), quality and completeness of work output (20%), attendance and punctuality (15%), communication and coordination with the team (15%), and initiative and learning attitude (10%).
A minimum score of 70% in the Month 6 evaluation is required for confirmation of full-time employment as MEP Engineer.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Fresh graduates or final year students with B.Tech, B.E., or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or MEP Engineering. 0 years of experience required — freshers are encouraged to apply. Basic AutoCAD knowledge is mandatory. Candidates must be willing to attend site visits within Bengaluru and occasionally outside.
WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE
Monthly stipend of ₹10,000, hands-on training on live commercial and industrial MEP projects, dedicated senior engineer as mentor, AutoCAD and design software training, exposure to full project lifecycle from concept to site, Internship Completion Certificate upon successful completion, and a guaranteed full-time Appointment Letter as MEP Engineer upon scoring 70% or above in the final evaluation.
