Job Description

Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

Position Summary

Join athenahealth as a Member of Technical Staff focused on administering and supporting our Customer Data Platform (CDP) and Marketing Data Warehouse (MDW) to enable reliable, actionable customer data for marketing and analytics. This position is based in Bangalore — Whitefield, India and is offered as a hybrid role. This role reports to the Senior Manager and requires NA% travel annually.

About The Team

As a Marketing Systems Engineer on the athenaIT team, you will focus on supporting our CDP and MDW. This role involves the administration, integration, maintenance, and optimization of the CDP system and MDW to effectively leverage customer data for marketing, analytics, and business strategies.

Expanded description: You will work with cross-functional partners—including marketing, analytics, data engineering, and platform teams—to keep customer data flows reliable, secure, and well-documented. Responsibilities include day-to-day administration, incident response, data validation, deployment support, and operational tuning. You will help maintain data quality, monitor pipelines, implement configuration updates, and support integrations between the CDP, MDW, and downstream systems. The role requires hands-on technical skills, a troubleshooting mindset, and the ability to translate technical issues into clear outcomes for stakeholders. As part of a hybrid team, you will balance on-site collaboration in Whitefield with remote work for focused delivery.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Administer CDP and MDW environments: manage configurations, user access, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor data pipelines and ingestion jobs; identify and resolve failures or performance regressions.
  • Validate data integrity and perform regular reconciliations between source systems, CDP, and MDW.
  • Deploy configuration changes and support release activities for CDP/MDW integrations and connectors.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate fixes with engineering and vendor teams.
  • Create and maintain operational runbooks, system diagrams, and configuration documentation.
  • Implement data governance controls for customer data flows, including masking, retention, and audit logging.
  • Provide stakeholder support: translate technical issues into clear impact statements and recommended remediation steps.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to speed routine diagnostics, summarize log events, or draft data-change proposals; verify tool outputs and apply technical judgement before implementing changes.
  • Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and routine health checks to maintain reliability and scalability.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with onboarding of new data sources, connectors, or marketing integrations.
  • Support testing and validation for new features or vendor upgrades in staging environments.
  • Contribute to automation scripts or tooling that reduce manual operational work.
  • Help develop basic dashboards or alerts that surface data quality or pipeline health to stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross-team working groups to define integration requirements and data contracts.
  • Provide after-hours on-call support on a rotational basis if required.

Expected Education & Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience administering or supporting CDP, data warehouse, or related data infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with CDP platforms and data warehouse technologies (examples: Segment, mParticle, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or equivalent).
  • Practical knowledge of data ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data validation techniques.
  • Familiarity with data governance concepts, access controls, and basic data privacy practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting production incidents, performing root cause analysis, and coordinating remediation.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and common scripting or automation tools (Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Strong documentation skills and experience creating runbooks, operational guides, or system diagrams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
