Job Description
Position Summary
Performs and records laboratory tests in the section that encompass a broad range of sophistication and assists in quality control studies, research and development of new procedures, teaching of students and orientation of new personnel.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Performs, records and evaluates external and internal quality control procedures, such as daily control specimens, reproducibility and other external Quality Control specimens.
Checks and standardizes reagents.
Calibrates and standardizes sophisticated instrumentation according to sectional guidelines.
Performs routine maintenance on sophisticated instrumentation. Required to perform and document routine troubleshooting.
Researches literature and assists with the development of new procedures as requested.
Prepares and presents lectures and/or in-services as requested.
Performs duties of senior technologist and/or is responsible for running the section when required to do so on weekends, holidays and during weekdays when the Supervisor is absent.
Interprets and correlates test results with the patient's diagnosis.
Maintains complete and accurate records (i.e. log books, master worksheets, instrument worksheets and maintenance sheets).
EDUCATION:
GRADUATE FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH A B. SC. IN MEDIAL TECHNOLOGY, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE:
ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE WORKING IN ALL AREAS OF THE LABORATORY PREFERRED INCLUDING MICROBIOLOGY AND BLOOD BANK.
LICENSURE:
AMT, ASCP, CASMET, AABB, NCA, CSMLS OR EQUIVALENT.
BAHAMAS HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL IS MANDATORY.
