Job Description

About Alteon

The Wright Brothers gave humanity flight, Alteon exists to give humanity (almost) perpetual flight. Our mission is to build the world's highest endurance aircrafts – ones that can fly for up to 417 days at a time.

We are a small, young team driven by pushing the limits of what's possible – we don't like settling for good enough. We are here to build the best technology possible, the best airplane possible, to do the best engineering possible. Limited only by the laws of physics.

About this role

As a Mechanical R&D engineer, you will be in the team that ensures that we are building the best aircrafts possible. You will work alongside flight test, production and composite teams to identify and solve hardware problems. You will own problems end-to-end from designing a new part on the desk to then actually building it alongside the production team and testing it. This role requires you to be able develop subject matter expertise on the fly in domains across the spectrum – depending on what problem you are working on this week.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with flight testing to identify mechanical problems across the aircraft and own them end-to-end.
  • Design new parts and mechanisms in Fusion when the problem calls for it – be able to take them from a sketch to a flying part on the aircraft.
  • Build test rigs, fixtures, and testing processes – including larger infrastructure like accelerated life cycle testing setups.
  • Use first order calculations and run experiments to validate & iterate your concepts and parts.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in whatever domain this week's problem demands - sealing, fatigue, materials, mechanisms, vibration, etc.

Skills & competencies

  • You've gotten your hands dirty doing hands-on mechanical work across airplanes, automotive, general robotics or anything else that had to work in the real world.
  • You are proficient in CAD (Fusion 360, Solidworks, Etc)
  • You have a working knowledge of design for manufacturing and GD&T
  • You have hands-on experience with manufacturing & prototyping techniques across the board – from 3d printing to sheet metal fabrication to composites.

This role is full time, in-person at our facility in Bidarahalli, Bangalore.
