About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical systems, components (HVAC, drive systems, air compressors, pumps, and utilities) to ensure they are operational at all times, enabling uninterrupted research & development processes in the laboratories (for R&D Engineer) and in Kilo Lab and Pilot Plant (for Plant Engineer) through routine check-up, preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance to support organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Active support of the philosophy, values, and strategy of PI Industries Ltd.
  • Efficient contribution to the overall success of PI R&D by driving execution according to objectives and targets set by the R&D management team.
  • Fulfilling requirements from business (reflected in targets) and supporting R&D and Plant activities.
  • Support other departments within the frame of given expertise and resources.
  • Support Team Lead Engineering with a special focus on personnel, target setting, development of strengths, building of know-how, feedback, and coaching.
  • Ensure operation and timely execution of preventive maintenance schedules for all HVAC, drive systems, air compressors, chilled water, brine, steam, vacuum, nitrogen, pumps, and general utilities through effective resource allocations, spare part indenting & its planning within allocated budget.
  • Familiarity with small-scale to pilot-scale chemical processing equipment and their mechanical requirements and ability to support batch trials, equipment readiness, and process scale-up from lab to plant.
  • Manage technical breakdown situations of mechanical failures, vibration issues, seal failures, and thermal control deviations of equipment, systems, and utilities with the help of internal R&D/KLPP Plant resources, and/or centralized Udaipur engineering services, vendors, and/or external service providers, as may be required, to minimize downtime resulting from any breakdowns.
  • Ensure execution of annual maintenance contracts for all equipment, systems, and utility installations and ensure required visits by service engineers are taking place as prescribed in such contracts.
  • Involvement in general utility operation and maintenance.
  • Implement PI-EHS policies on shop floor working and ensure strict adherence to practices such as ISO14001, ISO45001, and ISO27001 or other certifications, and/or other regulatory practices, to the extent they relate to the R&D and KLPP facilities with proper documentation.
  • Knowledge of mechanical safety standards, pressure vessel codes, and statutory compliance (PED, ASME, API, etc.) and understanding of safety interlocks, LOTO procedures, mechanical isolation, and equipment inspection protocols, also having familiarity with HAZOP/HAZID recommendations and implementation of mechanical safeguards.
  • Maintain close working relationships with the users of the R&D and KLPP to understand their requirements, list them out, make the action plan, and implement it.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of all technical systems, installations, utilities, services, equipment, etc. that are part of the R&D and KLPP.
  • Ensure a complete set of documentation is kept of all technical systems, installations, etc., including sets of control drawings, and is kept up to date whenever there are changes.
  • Ensure timely execution of any other activities that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Provide inputs in project preparation, project execution, and milestone tracking.
