Mechanical Integration & Structural Load Test Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Integration & Structural Load Test Engineer to support the development and verification of aerospace structures for launch vehicle and space systems. This role involves hands-on responsibility for integration of structural hardware, setup and execution of structural load tests, and validation of structural performance against design requirements.

You will work closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure flight hardware and development articles are assembled, instrumented, and tested to meet program objectives.

Responsibilities

Structural Integration

  • Perform mechanical integration of aerospace structures including primary and secondary assemblies.
  • Execute assembly, alignment, and installation of structural components using engineering drawings and procedures.
  • Develop integration plans, assembly sequences, and work instructions.
  • Conduct fit checks, interface validation, and dimensional inspections.
  • Support resolution of integration issues, hardware discrepancies, and configuration changes.

Structural Load Testing

  • Support planning and execution of structural load tests including development, qualification, and acceptance testing.
  • Translate structural analysis load cases into physical test setups.
  • Prepare load introduction hardware, fixtures, and reaction structures.
  • Install and validate instrumentation including strain gauges, load cells, and displacement sensors.
  • Monitor load application and structural response during testing.

Test Operations

  • Participate in test readiness reviews and execution activities.
  • Ensure configuration and calibration of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Support closed-loop load control testing environments.
  • Document test results, anomalies, and engineering observations.

Documentation & Quality

  • Generate test procedures, integration documentation, and test reports.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintain configuration control and traceability of test hardware.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 36+ years of experience in mechanical integration, structural testing, or aerospace hardware development.
  • Experience working with large structural assemblies or aerospace components.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation such as strain gauges, load cells, and displacement sensors.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with launch vehicle or aerospace structural testing.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic structural test systems and actuator control.
  • Experience working with composite aerospace structures.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems and structural test automation.
