Job Description
At Kshatra Labs, we are engineering the next generation of defense robotics: high-performance, autonomous systems built to operate at the edge of physical and computational limits.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
You will design, simulate, print and test airframe and mechanical structures for our UAVs, balancing weight, stiffness, aerodynamics and packaging under tight deadlines.
What you'll do:
- Model parts and assemblies in CAD: frames, arms, mounts, enclosures, payload bays
- Run first-pass FEA on structural parts and simple CFD on fuselages, props or ducts, then sanity-check results
- Take designs from sketch to printed or machined prototype, and iterate after fit-checks and flight or bench tests
- Design for manufacturing and assembly: tolerances, fastener selection, print orientation, part count, serviceability
- Package electronics, batteries, cameras and wiring inside tight, weight-limited airframes
- Help build test rigs (thrust stands, vibration or drop tests) and log results
- Write lean build documentation: drawings, BOMs, assembly notes
Must-haves:
- Pursuing or recently completed a B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automobile or a related branch
- Hands-on CAD skills: you can model a multi-part assembly and produce a clean drawing
- Practical 3D printing experience (FDM at minimum) and an understanding of how print settings affect part strength
- At least one project you designed, built and tested yourself: college team, personal build or competition
Good-to-haves:
- Exposure to FEA or CFD
- Experience on a drone, rover, SAE, robotics or rocketry team
- Familiarity with composites mainly carbon fiber, CNC machining or sheet metal
- Knowledge of engineering materials: aluminium alloys, PA-CF, PETG, TPU, nylon, CF/GF composites
- Basic understanding of propulsion: electric motors and props; IC engine or hybrid exposure is a bonus
- Awareness of high-G loading, vibration isolation, thermal management or weather sealing
What you'll learn:
- Taking airframes from rapid prototype to field-ready hardware
- Weight-saving and stiffness trade-offs on real flying platforms
- DFM/DFA as practiced in a fast-moving hardware startup
