Job Description

Mechanical Engineering Expert — AI Training Specialist

About The Role

We partner with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers who know their domain cold.

This is a rare opportunity to apply deep expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more to a genuinely novel challenge: making AI think like an engineer. You'll design problems that push AI to its limits, author gold-standard solutions, and expose the reasoning failures that hold these models back.

No AI background needed — your engineering knowledge is what matters.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week (flexible)

What You'll Do

  • Design Challenging Problems — Develop advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, thermodynamics, and material science to stress-test AI reasoning.
  • Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as ground-truth benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation.
  • Audit AI Outputs — Review AI-generated responses involving CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
  • Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical failures in AI outputs — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed kinematic assumptions — and deliver structured feedback that directly improves model performance.

Who You Are

  • Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field (Master's — pursuing or completed — or PhD)
  • Strong Domain Knowledge across core areas such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Clear Technical Communicator — able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in precise, structured written form
  • Detail-Oriented — high precision when checking mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • No prior AI or data annotation experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, data quality, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Familiarity with AI-generated code or automated simulation workflows

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI with top research labs pushing the frontier of what AI can reason about
  • Fully remote and flexible — work on your schedule, at your own pace
  • Freelance autonomy — no rigid hours, no micromanagement, just impactful technical work
  • Ongoing opportunity — strong performers have potential for contract extension and increased hours
  • Make a real impact — your engineering expertise directly shapes how the next generation of AI understands the physical world
