Mechanical Engineering Expert — AI Training Specialist
About The Role
We partner with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers who know their domain cold.
This is a rare opportunity to apply deep expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more to a genuinely novel challenge: making AI think like an engineer. You'll design problems that push AI to its limits, author gold-standard solutions, and expose the reasoning failures that hold these models back.
No AI background needed — your engineering knowledge is what matters.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week (flexible)
What You'll Do
- Design Challenging Problems — Develop advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, thermodynamics, and material science to stress-test AI reasoning.
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as ground-truth benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation.
- Audit AI Outputs — Review AI-generated responses involving CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
- Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical failures in AI outputs — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed kinematic assumptions — and deliver structured feedback that directly improves model performance.
Who You Are
- Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field (Master's — pursuing or completed — or PhD)
- Strong Domain Knowledge across core areas such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Clear Technical Communicator — able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in precise, structured written form
- Detail-Oriented — high precision when checking mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, data quality, or AI evaluation workflows
- Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
- Familiarity with AI-generated code or automated simulation workflows
