Job Summary:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who will design structures and bussing for switchgear, panel boards, and electrical power distribution equipment for safe, effective operation of products and processes while meeting and exceeding company quality and production standards and customer documentation and delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design or support the design of mechanical structures, components, and bussing systems for low- and medium-voltage equipment, ensuring alignment with project requirements, engineering standards, and applicable codes.
  • Review customer specifications, project documents, and guidance from senior team members to develop accurate and compliant designs.
  • Utilize 3D modeling and drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, PDM systems, SolidWorks) to create and manage mechanical designs and documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by standardizing design practices, increasing efficiency, and supporting efforts to maintain schedule and budget targets.
  • Select mechanical components and fabrication materials for a variety of electrical equipment assemblies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, fabrication processes, and equipment such as forming, punching, welding, machining, and finishing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design, quality, and manufacturing issues and support ongoing process improvements.
  • Participate in training and development activities to enhance technical skills and support team knowledge growth.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, new technologies, and product advancements to support ongoing innovation.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors.
  • Provide occasional on-site technical support for customers and suppliers, including limited regional travel.
  • Follow all housekeeping, safety, and quality procedures.
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline
  • 7-10 years of experience designing mechanical structures and components for low- or medium-voltage electrical equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, and panelboards
  • Ability to support manufacturing, assembly, testing, and field service activities as needed
  • Experience coordinating project tasks and supporting order management
  • Assist in developing product and project cost estimates or quotes
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience using mechanical design software such as PDM systems, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other 3D modeling applications
  • Familiarity with mechanical test equipment and fabrication processes related to product manufacturing

Preferred:

  • Experience with sheet metal design, fabrication, machine design, GD&T, welding, and coatings.
  • Ability to specify and design structures and bussing for electrical equipment
  • Broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software aspects of product design and commissioning
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently
  • Experience or exposure to industries such as renewable energy, emerging energy markets, data centers, battery systems, or EV charging infrastructure is a plus
