The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Design Team Leader to lead our transformer design team. This role involves overseeing the mechanical design activities for various transformer types, ensuring technical excellence, adherence to standards, and timely project delivery.

How you'll make an impact

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical design engineers focused on transformer components and assemblies.

  • Oversee and perform detailed mechanical design calculations, simulations (e.g., FEM analysis), and technical specifications for power transformers, distribution transformers, and special transformers.

  • Ensure all designs comply with international standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI), internal company standards, customer specifications, and safety regulations.

  • Review and approve mechanical drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and other design documentation.

  • Collaborate closely with electrical design, manufacturing, quality, and project management teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs into the overall transformer production process.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and design quality.

  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and provide technical support during manufacturing, testing, and installation phases.

  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets for mechanical design activities.

  • Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and industry trends relevant to transformer mechanical design.

  • You will be ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on power transformers.

  • Proven experience in leading and managing a technical team.

  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo) and PDM/PLM systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of materials science, welding, fabrication processes, and stress analysis techniques relevant to transformer components (Cleats & Leads, tanks, cooling systems, bushings, tap changers, etc.).

  • Familiarity with relevant international standards (IEC, ANSI, IS) for transformer design and testing.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.
