Job Description

Function: Product Design & Engineering

Package: 18 LPA – 20 LPA

Experience: 8 Yrs – 12 Yrs

Reports To: Director of Operations

Job Purpose

To lead the Design function in interpreting customer, project and engineering

requirements and delivering technically sound, manufacturable and compliant

designs for SWOP Engineering's engineered mechanical products and equipment.

The role will provide technical leadership to the design team, oversee design layouts,

component selection, detailed drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM), design verification

and engineering documentation, while working closely with Manufacturing, Quality,

Purchase, Projects and other functions to ensure successful execution from design

to shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret customer specifications, technical requirements, engineering standards, drawings and

project inputs and convert them into practical engineering designs.

Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, equipment and systems based on

product and project requirements.

Prepare general arrangement drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings,

fabrication drawings and other shop-floor documentation.

Develop and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM), part lists, material specifications and

component specifications for assemblies and products.

Carry out appropriate material and component selection based on design requirements,

operating conditions, service requirements, applicable standards and manufacturability.

Develop equipment layouts, interfaces, dimensions, tolerances and assembly details considering

functionality, reliability, manufacturability and ease of maintenance.

Perform and/or support design calculations, engineering assessments and Design Verification,

including FEA analysis where applicable, using appropriate engineering software.

Apply relevant engineering codes, standards and specifications, including API, ASME, AWS and

other applicable industry/customer requirements.

Develop designs for a range of engineered mechanical equipment, pressure-control equipment,

manifolds, piping-related assemblies, machined components, fabricated structures, skids and

associated equipment, as applicable to the company's product portfolio.

Review existing designs and drawings and identify opportunities for design improvement,

standardisation, cost optimisation, weight reduction and manufacturability improvement.

Ensure that drawings and BOMs accurately reflect the approved design and are suitable for

procurement, manufacturing, inspection and assembly.

Work closely with the Manufacturing / Production team to resolve shop-floor design issues,

clarify drawings and incorporate practical manufacturing feedback.

Coordinate with Quality and Inspection teams to ensure that design requirements, critical

dimensions, materials, testing requirements and inspection criteria are adequately defined.

Coordinate with Purchase / Procurement for technical specifications, material requirements,

bought-out components and vendor-related engineering clarifications.

Interface with Project, Production, Quality, Purchase and other process owners to ensure smooth

execution of engineering deliverables.

Coordinate with third-party inspection, certification and approval agencies wherever required

and incorporate technically approved comments or design changes.

Review and incorporate customer, consultant, inspection agency and internal review comments

into drawings and engineering documentation.

Maintain proper drawing revisions, BOM revisions, design records and engineering

documentation to ensure design traceability and configuration control.

Participate in Design Reviews, DFMA reviews, Root Cause Analysis and continuous improvement

initiatives related to product design and manufacturing.

Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, testing and inspection and assist in

resolving design-related non-conformities.

Ensure that all design outputs are released accurately and within the required project timelines.

Required Technical Competencies

Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, machining,

fabrication and assembly.

Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, assembly drawings, layouts and

manufacturing/shop-floor drawings.

Good knowledge of BOM preparation, material specifications, component selection and

engineering documentation.

Working knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel calculations and design principles will be an

advantage, but the role is not limited to pressure-vessel design.

Good understanding of applicable API, ASME, AWS and other engineering standards and

customer specifications.

Knowledge of dimensional tolerances, GD&T, welding, machining, fabrication and material

selection.

Experience in CAD/3D modelling and drafting software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo or

equivalent.

Experience with FEA/engineering analysis software such as ANSYS or equivalent will be an

advantage.

Ability to understand and work with P&IDs, equipment layouts, technical specifications and

engineering documents.

Ability to translate engineering concepts into manufacturing-ready drawings and BOMs.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities

The position will work closely with:

Engineering / Design ↔ Manufacturing ↔ Quality ↔ Purchase ↔ Projects ↔ Inspection / Certification

The Design Engineer is expected to ensure that engineering outputs are not only technically correct but also

manufacturable, inspectable, procurable and practical for shop-floor execution.

Qualification & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering / relevant engineering

discipline.

Relevant experience in mechanical product design, equipment design, heavy engineering,

manufacturing or engineered industrial products.

Experience in design-to-manufacturing environments with responsibility for drawings and BOMs

is preferred.

Key Success Measures

Accuracy and completeness of engineering drawings and BOMs.

Timely release of engineering deliverables.

Reduction in design-related manufacturing issues and rework.

Compliance with applicable engineering standards and customer requirements.

Effective design verification and technical documentation.

Responsiveness to manufacturing, quality and procurement requirements.

Continuous improvement in product design, standardisation and manufacturability.
