Job Description

Position: Mechanical Design Engineer Intern

Department: Mechanical / Product Design

Location: Bengaluru

Type: Internship

About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern with a strong interest in mechanical design, product development, and prototyping.

The primary requirement for this role is hands-on proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360, particularly in 3D modelling, assemblies, and 2D engineering drawings.

The ideal candidate should have been using Fusion 360 as their primary CAD software for at least 1–2 years through academic projects, personal projects, internships, or professional work.

You will work on real-world mechanical and electromechanical projects, supporting the design, prototyping, assembly, testing, and improvement of mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and modify 3D mechanical models and assemblies in Fusion 360.
  • Prepare detailed 2D engineering drawings from 3D models.
  • Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, annotations, section views, and other drawing details required for manufacturing.
  • Develop mechanical components such as brackets, housings, enclosures, fixtures, linkages, and structural components.
  • Modify existing designs based on engineering, manufacturing, and testing requirements.
  • Support mechanical assembly and prototype development.
  • Work with manufacturing processes such as 3D printing, CNC machining, and sheet-metal fabrication.
  • Assist with testing and evaluation of mechanical prototypes.
  • Identify design issues and propose practical mechanical solutions.
  • Maintain organized CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and design revisions.
  • Work closely with engineers and designers during product development.

Must-Have Requirements
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360.
  • Experience using Fusion 360 for 3D modelling and 2D engineering drawings/drafting.
  • Ideally, Fusion 360 should have been your primary CAD software for the past 1–2 years.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design principles.
  • Understanding of mechanical assemblies and how individual components interact.
  • Basic understanding of dimensions, tolerances, fits, and engineering drawings.
  • Practical knowledge of 3D printing and additive manufacturing.
  • Basic hands-on understanding of mechanical assembly, fasteners, and hardware.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Good-to-Have Skills
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical simulation and analysis.
  • Experience with Fusion 360 Simulation / FEA.
  • Understanding of static structural analysis, stress, deformation, and factor of safety.
  • Basic understanding of mechanisms, load calculations, torque, and force analysis.
  • Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly).
  • Experience with CNC machining and sheet-metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and material selection.
  • Experience with prototyping and design validation.
  • Basic understanding of bearings, shafts, gears, motors, actuators, and other mechanical components.
  • Experience working on robotics, automation, or electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of other CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Rhino.

  • What We Look For

We are looking for someone who can go beyond basic CAD modelling and understands how a design becomes a real, manufacturable mechanical product.

The ideal candidate should be able to:

    • Build mechanical components and assemblies independently in Fusion 360.
    • Create proper manufacturing drawings, not just 3D models.
    • Understand how designs will be manufactured, assembled, and tested.
    • Work with 3D-printed prototypes and make design improvements based on practical observations.
    • Apply basic engineering calculations and analysis when required.
    • Learn quickly and solve mechanical design problems independently.
    Important

Fusion 360 proficiency is a primary requirement for this position. Candidates should have practical experience with both Fusion 360 3D modelling and engineering drawings/drafting.

Candidates may be asked to share their Fusion 360 projects, CAD portfolio, or complete a practical CAD/design task during the selection process.
