Catalyx Space is developing next-generation entry systems for space. As a Mechanical Design Engineer I (MGSE & Ground Systems), you will take ownership of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE), test fixtures, and ground station hardware. You will design, develop, validate, and deploy ground station rotators and related mechanical systems, while also contributing to spacecraft integration and qualification campaigns. This is a hands-on role ideal for engineers eager to grow by working on both mechanical and electromechanical systems that directly support flight hardware.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and validate MGSE hardware, including integration fixtures, handling rigs, and test stands.
- Design, develop, and deploy ground station rotators and other GS-related mechanical hardware.
- Create and maintain CAD models and detailed drawings in SolidWorks.
- Apply GD&T in compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups for sub-assemblies.
- Integrate electromechanical components (motors, drivers, controllers, sensors) into ground systems.
- Participate in spacecraft integration activities and support assembly/test operations.
- Coordinate with vendors to fabricate and assemble MGSE and GS hardware.
- Support qualification test campaigns (vibration, thermal, acoustic) with hands-on test involvement.
- Maintain accurate documentation and configuration in PLM systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- 3 years of experience in aerospace structural design and integration.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD.
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards for drawings and tolerances.
- Experience with tolerance stack-up.
- Basic knowledge of electronics integration (motor drivers, controllers, sensors).
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to take designs from CAD to deployed hardware.
- Strong interest in spacecraft integration and test support.
- Ability to own subassemblies end-to-end.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
