We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Market Data Business Analyst to support market data initiatives across an investment banking client. The role focuses on gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements, with a strong emphasis on creating Business Requirement Documents (BRDs) and Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs) for market data systems and workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering
- Collaborate with stakeholders (Front Office, Risk, Compliance, IT, Vendors) to gather and document business requirements related to market data (pricing, reference data, indices, etc.)
- Conduct workshops, stakeholder interviews, and requirement elicitation sessions
- Analyze current systems and workflows to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement areas
Documentation (Core Focus)
- Develop high-quality Business Requirement Documents (BRDs) capturing:
- Business objectives
- Scope and constraints
- Stakeholder requirements
- High-level workflows
- Translate BRDs into detailed Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs) including:
- Functional specifications
- Data mappings
- System workflows
- Use cases and user stories
- Maintain traceability between business requirements and functional specifications
Market Data Management
- Work with market data vendors (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv, exchanges) to understand data structures and delivery mechanisms
- Support onboarding of new market data feeds and enhancements to existing feeds
- Assist in data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between business users and technology teams
- Work closely with developers and QA teams to ensure accurate implementation of requirements
- Participate in UAT (User Acceptance Testing), including test case creation and defect tracking
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve market data procurement, usage, and governance processes
- Support automation and optimization initiatives in data workflows
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Information Systems, or related field
Technical & Functional Skills
- Understanding of market data types (pricing, reference data, corporate actions, indices)
- Familiarity with market data vendors (Bloomberg, Reuters, ICE, etc.)
- Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, SQL preferred)
- Knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and Agile methodologies
Analytical & Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities
- Attention to detail and data accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial markets (equities, fixed income, derivatives)
- Exposure to data governance or data management frameworks
- Familiarity with tools like JIRA, Confluence, or similar documentation tools
- 4–8 years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in market data or financial services
- Strong experience in creating BRDs and FRDs
