Job Description:
As a Manuscript Editor at Dozti, you will work closely with authors and literary development partners to strengthen the structure, pacing, clarity, and overall narrative integrity of long-form written works.
This is a big-picture editorial role focused on story architecture rather than grammar correction alone. You will evaluate manuscripts for character development, plot consistency, chapter flow, emotional pacing, thematic coherence, and structural effectiveness.
You will be expected to identify weaknesses in manuscripts early and provide actionable recommendations to improve readability, narrative momentum, and overall story execution.
This role requires strong literary judgment, advanced understanding of narrative structure, and the ability to think critically about how a story functions as a complete system.
Responsibilities:
• Review long-form fiction and non-fiction manuscripts from a structural perspective.
• Identify pacing issues, weak chapters, narrative inconsistencies, and structural gaps.
• Evaluate character arcs, dialogue effectiveness, and emotional progression.
• Provide developmental feedback on plot structure, chapter sequencing, and thematic clarity.
• Collaborate with authors and ghostwriters during the drafting and revision process.
• Recommend revisions that improve narrative momentum and reader engagement.
• Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and narrative direction across manuscripts.
• Organize and communicate editorial feedback clearly and constructively.
• Support long-term narrative development and intellectual property quality standards.
Requirements:
• 3 or more years of experience in developmental editing, manuscript evaluation, or narrative consulting.
• Advanced understanding of story structure, pacing, and narrative mechanics.
• Strong familiarity with fiction and long-form storytelling conventions.
• Excellent written communication and editorial reasoning skills.
• Ability to critically evaluate manuscripts while preserving author intent.
• Strong reading background across fiction and narrative non-fiction.
• High-level English proficiency, spoken and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a structured creative development environment.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Experience editing emotionally driven, character-focused, or long-form narrative works.
• Familiarity with biography or research-driven narrative structures.
• Background in publishing, literary agencies, or manuscript consulting.
• Understanding of classical narrative frameworks and archetypal storytelling.
• Experience working with ghostwriters or collaborative writing teams.
What We Offer:
• Direct involvement in the development of original long-form works.
• Opportunity to shape story structure and narrative quality at a foundational level.
• Remote work environment with autonomy and accountability.
• Competitive compensation aligned with editorial experience and judgment.
• Long-term growth opportunities within an expanding literary and intellectual property division.
• A culture focused on clarity, discipline, and high-quality creative execution.
