Role: NPI Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering

About the Team and the Role:
As a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, you will be the technical pivot point between Ather's design labs and our EMS partner shop floors. You aren't just overseeing production; you are the architect of the manufacturing process. You will own the end-to-end NPI (New Product Introduction) cycle, ensuring that every PCB assembly is optimized for manufacturability, reliability, and scale.
From driving DFM/DFA/DFT interventions during early design phases to ensuring the 4Ms (Man, Machine, Material, Method) are flawlessly executed at the supplier site, you will be responsible for the physical integrity of Ather's electronics. This role demands a deep technical grasp of SMT, PTH - processes, soldering standards (IPC/J-STD), and the rigors of PPAP. You will be the technical SPOC for our partners, ensuring that the Ather Standard is upheld from the first prototype to full-scale mass production.
Responsibilities:
- Own development of PCBAs by coordinating with the design team.
- DFM of the PCBA project in different design phases
- Work with the CFT team of assigned PCBA projects from scratch to manufacturing phase.
- Work closely with designers to address the DFM issues till closure
- Prepare the data package by collecting and preparing the internal documents and share it to EMS partners
- Ensure and validate the tool requirements at EMS side.
- Work with the EMS partner and ensure the 4M's are in place for every proto/NPI build.
- Responsible for successful completion of PPAP at supplier audit.
- PCBA Process Engineer, NPI Engineer, Technical SPOC for EMS partner.
Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in engineering in any discipline, 8 to 12 years of working experience in industries, expertise in manufacturing engineering
Must have Competencies:
- Ability to drive new product introduction at EMS partner sites.
- Ability to identify potential risks & plan to mitigate the 4M technical issues
- Hands on experience in working with multiple CFT
- Knowledge in PCBA & solderability standards like IPC A610, IPC600, J Standards
- Knowledge in DFM, DFT & DFA for PCBA
- Deep knowledge in PCBA Process Engineering
- Deep knowledge in SMT, Manual soldering, Wave soldering, selective soldering, conformal coating & Potting
- Experience in design of SMT stencil, Wave pallet and tools and jigs required for PCB Assembly
- Knowledge in PPAP audit requirement
- Knowledge in PCBA and unit level testing requirement
- Ability to understand the Test plans, Operator work instructions for test execution.
- Work with suppliers for ICT & other Test jigs development for new products.
- Experience in box build activities and special processes.
- Select, Validate, Introduce & Standardize New Assembly technologies/processes locally.
- First principles understanding of manufacturing principles, quality systems, testing systems.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn about multiple processes beyond expertise.
- Ability to understand and compute business case.
