Role : Manager - US Life Insurance Underwriting(Rule Engine Expert)

Job Location: Allianz Services, Kharadi, Pune

Mode of work: WFO

Experience : 12 to 18 years

Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced Underwriting Automation Specialist with expertise in rule engines and rule creation, specifically within the US life insurance industry.

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of US Life underwriting processes, automation systems, and data-driven decision modelling, enabling them to translate business logic into intelligent rules and workflows.
  • This role plays a vital part in developing, testing, and refining automation models that improve underwriting accuracy and efficiency across global teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and enhance underwriting rules and automation workflows.
  • Partner with underwriters to convert guidelines into executable logic and decision rules.
  • Leverage behavioural economics to script underwriting questions (question engine) that guide insureds toward clear disclosures, improving response accuracy and underwriting data quality.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to integrate diverse data sources into automated systems.
  • Support the creation of proprietary models and decision engines for automated underwriting.
  • Conduct UAT testing to validate rule functionality and accuracy.
  • Serve as a liaison between underwriting and technology teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and understanding.
  • Ensure all rules and data usage adhere to US regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Build underwriter confidence in automation by demonstrating accuracy, transparency, and consistency in rule logic.
  • Contribute to long-term plans for scalability and building in-house models

Good to have qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of US Life Underwriting and relevant state regulations.
  • Background in medical or technical disciplines (e.g., doctors / pharmacy graduates or analysts with automation experience).
  • Proven experience with automation tools, rule engines, or decision modelling systems.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of US data sourcesmedical, non-medical, pharmacy, and public records. ( eg: EHRs, APS, credit scores, MIB etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in rule testing, UAT, or automation deployments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across business and technology functions.
  • Comfortable working with global teams across time zones.
