Job Description

Primary Purpose of Role

  • Lead transmission engineering initiatives in India – Chennai plant support, product validation for localization resources and potential expansion of engineering capabilities in India. As India leadership role, key is to support executing the achievement of departmental engineering strategies and objectives, by leading local technical team and driving results through engagement, accountability, goal setting, and coaching and mentoring talent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the transmission engineering team support current product initiatives and new product development initiatives.
  • Trains, develops, and evaluates employees. Ensures employee awareness of and compliance to company policies.
  • Participates in the selection of new employees.
  • Using the Growth Initiatives as a guideline, manages technical programs in the region. Initiates required engineering tasks to support, including identification of resources required.
  • Support DVP&R, DFMEA, and Best Practice activities to guide product design, including either generation of new or modification of existing designs.
  • Provide technical support to the plant to resolve component non-confirmation requests and plant/supplier quality issues.
  • Provide technical support for regional resourcing activities by participating in supplier tech reviews.
  • Collaborate with advanced analysis & simulation, gear design, and advanced product design groups as required.
  • Extend technical support/presentation to India plant during high profile customer or OEM or supplier visit.
  • Provides problem solving support to employees, customers, and dealers for new and existing products.
  • Must work effectively with internal and external stakeholders to execute and prioritize project deliverables.
  • Represent Allison and maintain professional network with outside test and research agencies in the effort to India expansion.
  • Keeps abreast of Allison technical and product developments. Communicates to team and provides feedback to Indianapolis.
  • Works with a high level of independent judgment and strategic decision making.
  • Lead functional budget and business plan development

Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years product development as individual contributor or project/program manager
  • Project/Program manager role in multiple multi-disciplinary projects
  • Experience budgeting/forecasting expenses
  • Demonstrated history of teamwork and cross-functional leadership

Preferred

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 15-20 years of experience in automotive and/or commercial on-/off- highway vehicle industry
  • Exposures to various manufacturing processes and production plant support.
  • Exposure to India's automotive supply chain ecosystem
  • Exposure to India's automotive/commercial powertrain product validation/testing ecosystem
  • High level knowledge of powertrain Electrification – eMachines, Inverter, gearbox etc.
  • Experience in Problem solving techniques (Red X, Six Sigma etc.)
  • Engineering leadership/management experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred

Scope Factors

  • 5-6 direct reports, all individual contributors
  • Frequent interactions with cross-functional peers supporting and/or leading efforts to close process gaps
  • $0.5M expense budget responsibility / $35k approval authority
  • Coordinator of annual budget proposal
  • Coordinator of annual Process/Procedure maintenance across PE

Travel Expectations

  • 25% travel required
