What is Amex's objective for a Digital Workplace

The Digital Workplace Data & AI Platform, powered by GenAI capabilities, unifies data across the Digital Workplace, including end-user device data, collaboration tools, and colleague servicing platforms, along with key enterprise sources such as Information Security, Network, and Colleague Personas. The platform is designed to surface actionable insights and enable automated intelligence and data-driven features.

Role Overview

As Manager, Tech Strategy for the Data & AI Platform, you will transform raw enterprise data into trusted, contextualized, AI-ready knowledge. You will help define the data vision, governance, and architecture that power analytics, GenAI, and automation, delivering a best-in-class digital experience for American Express colleagues.

This role blends data architecture, platform product management, and strategic leadership, with strong partnership across engineering, product, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

As a leader in Data & AI strategy, you will:Define and execute the enterprise data vision and roadmap for Digital Workplace platforms.

  • Research and Design scalable, governed, AI-ready data ecosystems, including semantic layers, metadata strategy, vector stores, and knowledge graphs.
  • Lead the design and delivery of distributed data platforms and pipelines, partnering closely with Engineering and Product teams.
  • Enable GenAI, agentic AI, and advanced analytics through high-quality, contextualized, and vectorized data.
  • Define measures of success for the platform, outcomes and track success metrics
  • Champion data governance, metadata excellence, lineage, security, and semantic consistency aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Drive modernization initiatives including cloud migration, real-time streaming, lakehouse adoption, and data democratization.
  • Partner with senior leaders to align data strategy with colleague experience, productivity, and enterprise AI goals.
  • Influence and communicate strategy, trade-offs, and value to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate market solutions and internal capabilities to shape a future-ready data and AI ecosystem.
  • Contribute to the broader American Express Data Strategy, collaborating across technology domains.

Professional Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading technology strategy for remote and distributed product engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of data science concepts, including predictive modeling and advanced analytics.
  • Experience partnering with industry vendors and technology providers to evaluate advanced data solutions, reference architectures, and market trends.
  • Ability to collaborate with business and functional leaders to translate business objectives into data design patterns, domain models, and data product roadmaps.
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining and executing data product strategies, including curated datasets, real-time data pipelines, semantic layers, dashboards, and predictive models.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization and reporting, using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent platforms. Hands-on software engineering is an advantage but not a requirement
  • Experience enabling democratized, self-service data access through standardized APIs, data catalogues, and governed analytics platforms as well as implementing effective processes for our users
  • Expertise in establishing enterprise data governance frameworks, including data quality, metadata management, lineage, and observability.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and privacy requirements, ensuring data integrity and protection across enterprise systems.
