Role Purpose

JLL's Sustainable Asset Services support the creation of resilient real estate assets for the future. We guide our clients through the evolving landscape of sustainability, to deliver their retrofit, fit-out or property transaction in accordance with their ESG goals and industry-leading practice. We help clients to decarbonise their buildings, protect assets from our changing climate and create better, healthier places for people.

We have a diverse team of engineers and sustainability professionals, which enables us to guide our clients through all sustainability requirements for projects, combining NZC with equally critical sustainability criteria, maximising opportunities to deliver best-in-class sustainable buildings. What This Job Involves

  • Providing technical direction to the JBS Sustainability team
  • Reviewing existing buildings from site surveys, as built information, energy data and research; and quantify a building's key energy performance factors
  • Creating and checking others detailed thermal models for accuracy and quality. This will also require modelling to a building system component level using Apache HVAC.
  • Having a good understanding of a building's engineering and building fabric factors to determine an efficient NZC building design
  • Oversight of work of less experienced colleagues, including coaching and technical training
  • Day-to-day responsibility for projects or client programmes of work, with director support
  • Liaising with clients to discuss and outline NZC or other technical design solutions
  • Undertaking whole life carbon assessments
  • May involve combining NZC advice with broader sustainability advice and management for projects, coordinating NZC with BREEAM and WELL etc
  • Monitoring industry trends, evaluating new products and services and collaborating with internal energy and sustainability professionals to share and learn best practices and publish case studies of successful initiatives.
  • Undertaking and managing compliance modelling for BRREAM/LEED, Part L and EPCs.
  • Analysing a building's engineering and building fabric factors to determine opportunities to improve performance.
  • Aligning building analysis to consider related European building regulation issues associated with building performance
  • Developing building performance metrics to compensate where limited or no information is available.
  • Undertake whole life carbon assessments using OneClickLCA. Training can be provided as required.
  • Strong excel skills to help with analysis. An ability to present data clearly and effectively is key requirement
  • Experience of Building Services systems in a design capacity or similar.

Sound like you To apply you need to be / have:

  • A passion for sustainable and NZC buildings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong building services engineering and design abilities
  • A knowledge of building fabric elements related to energy efficiency is mandatory
  • Chartered status or very close on the pathway to achieving this.
  • Strong skills with IES VE software and CIBSE TM 54 thermal modelling. Ideally familiar with IES Apache HVAC.
  • Familiar with Part L/SAP modelling and up to date with the proposed changes to these regulations
  • Competent in AutoCAD and ideally Revit. Candidate should be able to read/comprehend Auto-Cad/Revit drawings to create models
  • An understanding of industry bodies and standards for NZC buildings and sustainability in the built environment
  • An understanding of BREEAM and the Energy related credits
  • Knowledge or experience in OneClickLCA is desirable
  • Knowledge of the Passivhaus Standard is desirable
  • Experience in wider sustainability consulting, such as BREEAM, WELL and biodiversity is desirable
  • An ability to sketch ideas and communicate with sketches rather than written text
  • Lead a team of senior, intermediate and junior engineers and consultants
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Communicates effectively with various country sustainability team members across EMEA
  • Ability to understand and produce requirements set by various team members across EMEA
  • Takes full ownership of assigned tasks to deliver on time to high standards
  • Delegates tasks to team to deliver sustainability certification requirements throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manages the teams time, efforts and quality of the work produced
  • Maintains a project and resource tracker for quick task turnaround allocation
  • End to end solution driven to manage certification process and requirements from all project stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of certification process, submission criteria and alternative adhere pathways to maximise the results for project clients
  • Abilities to independently develop solutions where challenges in certification compliance arise
  • Deliver project certifications, including but not limited to:
  • LEED
  • BREEAM
  • Fitwel

Embodied Carbon/LCA

  • As certification general scope above, and;
  • Comprehensive understanding of embodied carbon assessment, including but not limited to
  • RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA)
  • Embodied carbon standards (ISO 14067, EN 15978, TM65, etc). Knowledge of all carbon standards not necessary, however it would be good to have knowledge of one or two carbon standards
  • Ability to interrogate a material Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to extract various scope emissions, global warming potential (GWP) and non EPD material disclosure interpretation
  • Comprehensive understanding of embodied carbon modelling using OneClick LCA and other systems
  • Ability to read, interrogate and extract information from a bill of quantity (BoQ) to translate into project functional unit use
  • Comprehensive understanding of project stages and associated scope emissions throughout the lifecycle of projects

Skills Requirements:

  • Mechanical, Sustainability, Electrical, Mechatronics, Building Services, Architectural Engineering or other related Engineering Degree (Bachelor at minimum)
  • 10+ years of sustainability certification experience with minimum exposure to LEED & BREEAM
  • 20+ certified projects
  • 10+ certified projects from inception (pre-concept/concept) through to certification
  • 5+ years managing staff working on certifications
  • Energy, lighting, thermal comfort modelling experience to assess and interpret results for compliance documentation
