As Recykal scales into new markets, geographies, and regulatory environments, each Business Unit faces increasingly complex strategic questions — about growth priorities, competitive positioning, P&L trade-offs, and operating model choices. The Business Strategy Lead role exists to sit inside a BU cluster and be the strategic thinking partner the BU leadership team doesn't otherwise have.
This is not a central advisory role. You will be embedded, operationally close, and responsible for outcomes — not recommendations. You will report into the CSO but be physically and functionally aligned with your BU cluster on a day-to-day basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
BU Strategy & Annual Planning
- Own the annual strategic plan for your BU cluster — market sizing, growth hypotheses, competitive landscape, and prioritized initiative roadmap
- Drive quarterly business reviews in collaboration with BU heads — translating performance data into forward-looking strategic recommendations
- Identify strategic risks and whitespace opportunities before they become execution surprises
Commercial & Growth Projects
- Lead high-priority strategic projects end-to-end: new product launches, pricing strategy, channel expansion, or partnership assessments
- Build the business case for investment decisions within the BU, including financial modelling and scenario analysis
- Work with business development and sales teams to assess key account or segment opportunities
Cross-functional Coordination
- Act as the strategy interface between your BU and the central strategy function (CSO, M&A, New Business, and IR)
- Ensure the BU's strategic priorities are reflected in company-level resource allocation, investment decisions, and board narratives
- Coordinate with Finance, Product, and Operations to ensure strategy translates into funded, executable plans
Performance & Insights
- Define and track leading indicators of strategic health for your BU — beyond the standard revenue and margin metrics
- Build and maintain a competitive intelligence picture for your BU's market, flagging meaningful shifts to leadership
- Produce concise, decision-ready strategy memos and presentations for the CSO and leadership team
IDEAL PROFILE
Non-negotiable
- 4–8 years of experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, or business development
- Demonstrated ability to own a strategic problem end-to-end: from framing to analysis to recommendation to execution follow-through
- Strong analytical foundation — comfortable building financial models, sizing markets, and stress-testing assumptions
- Excellent written communication — able to turn complex trade-offs into clear, structured narratives for senior stakeholders
- Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to operate without a playbook
Strongly Preferred
- MBA from a Tier-1 institution or equivalent analytical training (top-tier consulting / IB background)
- Experience in sustainability, circular economy, waste management, e-commerce, or regulated industries
- Prior experience being embedded in or closely partnering with a business unit rather than working in a purely central function
- Exposure to India's EPR regulatory landscape or the extended producer responsibility ecosystem
What makes someone exceptional in this role
- They make the BU head's thinking sharper, not just their slide decks prettier
- They know when to push back and when to row harder
- They earn trust with operators by understanding the business deeply, not just analysing it from the outside
- They are proactively curious — always a step ahead on what's changing in the market or the competitive set
