Manager – Scientific Writing (Medical Communications)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager – Scientific Writing to lead the development and review of high-quality medical communication and learning & development (L&D) content for Medical Affairs. The role requires strong expertise in scientific storytelling, stakeholder management, project leadership, and client engagement across diverse therapeutic areas and communication formats.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the development, review, and quality assurance of medical communication and non-promotional scientific content for Medical Affairs, including:
  • Slide decks and presentation kits
  • Newsletters and e-modules
  • Clinical trial summaries
  • Videos and digital learning assets
  • Scientific communication materials across multiple therapy areas
  1. Ensure all deliverables meet client expectations, quality standards, compliance requirements, and agreed timelines.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in Veeva and effectively manage content workflows and review cycles within the platform. (Mandatory requirement)
  3. Make strategic decisions regarding content structure, scientific flow, messaging, and presentation style based on the target audience and communication objectives.
  4. Conduct comprehensive literature searches using databases such as PubMed, Embase, and other scientific sources; critically analyze and synthesize scientific data for content development.
  5. Independently manage assigned projects and actively participate in client discussions, review meetings, and scientific presentations.
  6. Collaborate with clients to recommend optimal approaches for scientific content presentation, learner engagement, and communication effectiveness across deliverables.
  7. Interpret client briefs and translate requirements into scientifically accurate, grammatically sound, and audience-appropriate content.
  8. Coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams including writers, designers, project managers, and quality reviewers to ensure seamless project execution.
  9. Drive adherence to departmental best practices related to:
  • Scientific writing standards
  • Referencing and literature management
  • Editorial quality and grammar
  • Content summarization and data interpretation
  • Project documentation and communication processes
  1. Mentor and coach junior writers and team members, supporting capability building, scientific acumen, and writing excellence within the team.

Desired Skills & Competencies

  • 14–18 years of experience in Medical Communications, Scientific Writing, and/or Medical Affairs L&D.
  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and life sciences industry.
  • Experience working across multiple therapeutic areas is highly preferred.
  • Excellent scientific writing, editing, and storytelling capabilities.
  • Strong verbal communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and literature evaluation skills.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and compliance.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective client relationships.
  • Passion for mentoring, team development, and continuous learning.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of scientific, medical, and digital communication trends.

Educational Qualification

  • M.Pharm / Pharm.D / Ph.D. / Master's degree in Life Sciences or related discipline.
  • Candidates with relevant experience in Medical Communications will be preferred
