Job Summary
Lead end-to-end operations for tablet compression and coating in a US FDAapproved OSD manufacturing site. Ensure adherence to production plans, cGMP & 21 CFR 210/211 compliance, OEE improvement, 5S/Kaizen implementation, and continuous enhancement of safety, quality, and productivity while managing a multishift team.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operational Excellence
- Manage daily compression and coating operations, ensuring achievement of production targets, OEE, yield, and RFT.
- Drive OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) improvement initiatives by reducing downtime, optimizing performance, and minimizing quality losses.
- Lead 5S implementation across production areas, ensuring periodic audits, visual management, and sustained workplace discipline.
- Champion Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve process flow, and streamline changeovers and line clearance activities.
- Optimize setup/changeover time, reduce avoidable losses, and support ongoing cost optimization projects.
GMP Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure strict adherence to cGMP, data integrity (ALCOA+), and compliance with 21 CFR 210/211.
- Maintain audit readiness for US FDA, MHRA, EU GMP, and other regulatory inspections.
- Review and approve BMR/BPR and ensure robust documentation practices in compliance with SOPs.
- Coordinate with QA, QC, Planning, and Engineering to ensure smooth batch execution and timely closure of documentation.
Quality Investigations & Technical Troubleshooting
- Lead deviation investigations, CAPA, change control, OOS/OOT, and conduct regular shopfloor GMP audits.
- Troubleshoot issues in compression (capping, lamination, weight variation, sticking) and coating (picking, orange peel, color variation, roughness, etc.).
- Support process validation, scaleup, and technology transfer activities in coordination with crossfunctional teams.
Equipment Oversight & Process Control
- Oversee performance of compression equipment (rotary tablet presses, compressioncoated tablet machines, auto weight control systems).
- Manage coating systems including aqueous and organic coating pans; ensure adherence to set parameters.
- Ensure proper equipment qualification, preventive maintenance, and calibration through coordination with the Engineering team.
Safety & EHS Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all safety norms: dust control, solvent handling, PPE compliance, and area hygiene.
- Promote a strong safety culture through regular training, toolbox talks, and proactive EHS monitoring.
Team Handling & Leadership
- Lead and manage a multishift team of operators, technicians, and officers.
- Ensure efficient manpower planning, task allocation, and shift management to meet production goals.
- Provide training on GMP, safety, equipment handling, 5S, Kaizen, RCA tools, and SOP updates.
- Drive team motivation, performance reviews, competency mapping, and skill development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
