At Cairn, we are committed to playing a lead role in the energy security of the country and geared up towards contributing half of India's crude production. In this context, we are looking for a dynamic leader for the role of Manager Production & Environment – North East.
The incumbent will be responsible to safely and efficiently operate, monitor, and optimize production facilities during normal operations, planned shutdowns, start-ups, and emergency situations, while ensuring strict adherence to HSE, environmental, and energy management standards in line with Cairn procedures and internationally accepted practices.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Operations & Production
- Operate production facilities during normal, start-up, shutdown, and emergency modes in accordance with Cairn India procedures and international standards.
- Coordinate with planners and cross-functional teams to execute planned jobs effectively.
- Plan jobs prior to execution, including manpower, materials, tools, and safety requirements.
- Maintain daily operational logs, shift handover notes, and production records.
- Ensure continuous data monitoring, analysis, and record keeping for production and equipment performance.
- Maintain ongoing communication with supervisors, shift teams, other sites, and production groups.
- Interface effectively with maintenance teams, contractors, and third-party service providers.
Maintenance & Technical
- Monitoring well behavior including flow adjustment. Quality checks for crude and gas before sales.
- Tanker operation including the proper documentation.
- Support and oversee equipment maintenance to ensure reliability and availability.
- Review and utilize P&IDs, isometric drawings, OEM manuals, and technical documents in day-to-day activities.
- Use high-precision measurement tools for inspection, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Apply strong analytical skills to identify root causes and recommend improvements.
- Demonstrate self-initiative in raising technical issues and identifying improvement opportunities.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Safety
- Maintain a high level of focus on personal and process safety across all mechanical and operational activities.
- Attend and actively participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and pre-job safety meetings.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Implement safety protocols to protect personnel, assets, and the environment.
- Provide safety inputs and training related to hazardous materials handling and equipment operation.
Environment
- Maintain plant and equipment to minimize fugitive emissions, oil leaks, and chemical spills.
- Use the Waste Management System to meet terminal objectives for waste handling and reduction.
- Understand environmental emissions, resource consumption, and their impacts.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory environmental objectives and targets.
- Assess potential environmental impacts during job planning and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Lead audits and inspections related to environmental compliance and sustainability metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into operational planning.
- Drive awareness and capability building within teams on environmental stewardship and responsible operations.
Energy Management
- Implement energy efficiency initiatives to reduce consumption and environmental impact.
- Analyze energy usage patterns and recommend optimization and sustainability measures.
Stakeholder Management & Coordination
- Act as a key interface between operations, maintenance, HSE, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless production activities.
- Coordinate with government authorities, regulatory bodies, and local communities to ensure compliance and operational continuity.
- Engage with vendors, contractors, and third-party service providers to ensure alignment on safety, quality, and timelines.
- Support leadership in managing relationships with joint venture partners and internal business stakeholders.
- Facilitate effective communication during critical operations such as shutdowns, emergencies, and high-risk activities.
- Represent the production function in cross-functional reviews, audits, and operational meetings.
- Proactively identify stakeholder risks and develop mitigation strategies to avoid operational disruptions.
- Ensure transparent and timely reporting of operational, safety, and environmental performance to relevant stakeholders.
Emergency Response
- Support development and implementation of emergency response procedures for operational and environmental incidents.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and effective emergency response, minimizing impact on people, communities, and ecosystems.
Coaching & Development
- Interact effectively with staff across levels and functions.
- Provide proactive input into junior staff training and development programs.
- Encourage continuous development beyond core technical skills.
- Provide regular feedback to line management on team capability, progress, and development needs.
Qualification Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Production / Chemical / Petroleum Engineering (or equivalent)
- Relevant oil & gas field experience in production or operations (7-10+ years)
- Strong understanding of production operations and facility management
- Sound knowledge of HSE, environmental compliance, and energy management
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents
- Effective communication and coordination skills
- High ownership, safety mindset, and continuous improvement orientation
