Position: Manager / AVP – Legal Counsel – Compliance & Innovation
Experience: Law graduate with 7+ years of post-qualification
experience Type: Full-time
Location: Mumbai
Why This Role Excites Lawyers
● Partner with the business as the go‑to legal strategist on next‑gen compliance and culture solutions, rather than just reviewing work at the end.
● Work at the intersection of law, product, and technology to shape how enterprises experience compliance, ethics, and workplace culture.
● Collaborate directly with senior leadership, product, content, and tech teams, advising on risk, design choices, and responsible innovation.
● Grow in an inclusive, fast-growing environment that values ownership, experimentation, and clear, business-focused legal thinking.
What You Will Do
Be the legal brain behind compliance products
● Serve as in-house legal counsel for Rainmaker's compliance and culture offerings, from idea to launch and scale.
● Spot, analyse, and mitigate legal, regulatory, and reputational risks across product concepts, scripts, scenarios, product features, and client use-cases.
● Ensure our products and solutions align with Indian law and global best practices across areas like anti‑harassment, anti‑bribery, whistleblowing, data protection, and workplace conduct.
Shape how compliance is taught
● Guide internal teams on legal accuracy, nuance, and positioning for learning programs, simulations, case-studies, and LMS modules.
● Review and refine high-impact content, from scenarios and assessments to videos and tool flows, so that complex legal concepts become clear, practical, and engaging for non-lawyers.
Lead research and thought leadership
● Track and analyse developments in statutes, rules, case law, enforcement trends, and global regulatory standards across focus areas such as DPDP, anti‑corruption, competition, and employment law, etc.
● Convert these insights into advisory notes, perspectives, frameworks, and product ideas that keep Rainmaker ahead of the curve and relevant to general counsels, CHROs, and boards.
Co-create cool legal-tech and compliance tools
● Partner with Business Development and Client Success teams to design tailored compliance solutions grounded in strong legal reasoning and practical risk assessments.
● Participate in key client conversations to explain legal positions, defend choices in product design, and co‑create roadmaps with in-house legal and HR leaders.
Steward quality and partnerships
● Ensure all external vendors, consultants, and subject-matter experts meet our legal and ethical standards. ● Review and support contracts, scopes of work, and related documentation for product, content, and tech collaborations as needed.
What We're Looking For
● Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B. or equivalent); LL.M. or additional specialization in corporate / technology / privacy / labour law is a plus.
● At least 7 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house exposure in compliance, investigations, employment, privacy/data protection, or regulatory advisory.
● Strong research skills and comfort working with evolving regulations, enforcement trends, and cross-jurisdictional guidance.
● Excellent written and verbal communication - you can turn dense law into crisp, business-friendly advice and narratives.
● High ownership, curiosity about technology and product thinking, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams under time pressure.
Why This Role Matters
● Influence how leading organizations embed integrity, compliance, and culture into everyday behaviours using modern learning and tech.
● Build a portfolio of innovative compliance and legal-tech work that goes far beyond traditional advisory or contract-heavy roles.
● Grow into a senior, visible role at the intersection of law, product, and strategy, with a clear pathway toward broader leadership in legal, product counsel, or compliance innovation.
If you're a lawyer who loves solving problems, enjoys working closely with business and product teams, and wants to build the future of compliance and culture, this role is for you.
