Job Purpose: This role is responsible for overseeing the organization's legal proceedings by handling both regulatoty and non regulatory litigation. The role involves direct management of civil litigations, response to regulatory challenges, and coordination with various business units to support the company's legal position.
Job Responsibilities
Lead Litigation
Notice Management
Draft initial legal notices and coordinate comprehensively with business functions to gather factual backgrounds upon receipt of notices.
Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure coherent and informed responses to legal notices while adhering to established protocols.
Advice and consult business teams on the issuance of notices to ensure compliance with legal standards and corporate policies.
Regulatory Litigation Management
Oversee the documentation for all regulatory litigation cases.
Assess the implications of regulatory litigation outcomes on the organization's operations and strategize the pursuit of appellate remedies or settlements.
Ensure detailed preparation and submission of regulatory petitions, liaising with advocates to represent the company's regulatory interests effectively.
Non-Regulatory Litigation Management
Assess the implications of non-regulatory litigation outcomes to determine appropriate follow-up actions, including potential appeals or alternative dispute resolution methods.
Brief external counsel and aid in preparation and management of responses to legal challenges.
Compile and maintain comprehensive documentation for all legal proceedings.
Assist law firms by supplying relevant data and insights for non regulatory litigation cases.
Provide support in court sessions, offering legal advice and strategies to representative business teams.
Evaluate the results of legal proceedings to assess the merit and strategic value of initiating appellate action.
Internal Legal Advisory And Strategy Implementation
Provide business teams with expert legal opinions on various issues to foster informed decision-making across the company.
Remain updated on current changes in the law and integrate insights into evolving legal strategies for the organization.
Communicate proactively with legal counsel regarding company developments that may impact pending or ongoing legal proceedings.
Document and startegically incorporate internal developments in court submissions.
Advise and inform relevant parties on the status of legal matters, maintaining transparency and consensus on legal actions.
Legal Relationship Management
Maintain and develop strategic relationships within the legal fraternity, including networking with law firms and industry associations to benefit the company's legal standing.
Aid the Head - Legal in selecting law firms to contract for various litigations, ensuring alignment with the specific needs and strengths of each case.
Oversee and manage engagements with external legal experts to ensure proficient case handling and representation.
Legal Research And Technological Enhancement
Execute detailed legal research utilizing technology to inform on various legal case decisions, maintaining a proactive stance toward legal inquiry and analysis. For e.g. Manupatra
Spearhead the implementation and management of innovative legal technologies to elevate data management, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis capabilities for the legal team.

Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all legal aspects of land acquisition for thermal power projects, ensuring compliance with national and state laws, especially those relevant to Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions.
- Conduct comprehensive due diligence on land titles, ownership, encumbrances, and other legal aspects to mitigate risks before acquisition or leasing of land parcels.
- Draft, review, and negotiate land-related agreements including sale deeds, lease deeds, right of way agreements, easements, and other relevant contracts with landowners, government bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate closely with government agencies, local authorities, revenue departments, and legal entities to expedite land acquisition processes and resolve legal disputes.
- Provide expert legal advice on land acquisition policies, government schemes, compensation packages, rehabilitation, and resettlement procedures to ensure ethical compliance and social responsibility.
- Monitor and manage litigation or disputes related to land, coordinating with external counsel and representing the company's interests in courts or tribunals when necessary.
- Ensure all land acquisition activities adhere strictly to environmental regulations and sustainability guidelines, fostering a balance between project needs and ecological preservation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project management, finance, environment, and corporate affairs to provide holistic legal support for project development phases.
- Maintain updated knowledge of amendments in land laws, rules, and judicial pronouncements impacting thermal power projects and proactively implement required changes.
- Lead capacity building initiatives within the team by mentoring junior legal professionals and conducting training sessions on evolving land laws and compliance frameworks.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including community leaders, NGOs, and government representatives to facilitate smooth project execution in line with Adani's value of stakeholder inclusiveness.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting legal risks, mitigation strategies, and project compliance status.
- Champion transparency, fairness, and ethical standards in all legal dealings consistent with Adani's commitment to corporate governance and societal welfare.
- Drive process improvements to streamline legal workflows and reduce timelines related to land acquisition and clearances.
Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor's/ Master's Degree (Law) Bar Council of India accreditation (optional), Additional Degrees or Certifications (Corporate Law, M&A) preferred
Work Experience (Range Of Years)
Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, with exposure to handeling litigation and strategizing in a corporate setting.
Preferred Industry
Background in corporate law within the energy sector, particularly with experience in managing legal aspects of litigations and having knowledge of industry specific laws and regulations.
