ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a newly created role to support our growing SEO team.

As AI reshapes how users discover information, our SEO team is building a dedicated Generative Engine Optimisation practice to ensure our clients stay visible and cited in AI-powered search experiences - across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and beyond.

The GEO Manager will lead NPD's Generative Engine Optimisation capability within the SEO team. This is a high-impact, forward-looking role focused on making our clients content discoverable, cited, and trusted by large language models and AI answer engines. You will own GEO strategy across a portfolio of clients, working closely with SEO, content, and tech teams to drive measurable AI search visibility.

ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES

GEO Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute GEO strategies to improve client visibility in AI-generated answers across LLM platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, etc.
  • Conduct GEO audits to assess how clients content is (or isn't) cited by generative AI platforms.
  • Build entity authority and structured information frameworks that improve LLM citation probability.
  • Align GEO efforts with traditional SEO to deliver integrated, future-proof strategies.
  • Develop prompt-aligned content frameworks - ensuring content directly answers the questions LLMs are likely to surface.

Measurement & Reporting

  • Define and track GEO-specific KPIs, including AI citation frequency, share-of-voice in AI answers, and brand mention quality.
  • Build and maintain client-facing GEO monitoring dashboards (leveraging tools such as AI Overviews trackers, Perplexity monitoring, and brand mention tools).
  • Present GEO performance insights and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.

Thought Leadership & Innovation

  • Stay ahead of developments in generative AI, LLM search behaviour, and the evolving GEO landscape.
  • Contribute to NPD's internal GEO playbooks, frameworks, and training resources.
  • Represent NPD's GEO expertise in client conversations, proposals, and pitches.

ABOUT YOU

  • 3 - 6 years of experience in SEO, with at least 1 year focused on GEO, AEO, or LLM optimisation.
  • Strong understanding of how large language models retrieve, rank, and cite information.
  • Hands-on experience with SEO tools: Google Search Console, Semrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog.
  • Familiarity with AI search monitoring tools and citation tracking approaches.
  • Proven ability to build and execute content strategies grounded in topical authority and E-E-A-T.
  • Experience working in a client-facing agency environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication - able to translate complex AI concepts for client audiences.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to derive actionable insights from data.
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate in an emerging, fast-evolving discipline.
  • Collaborative team player comfortable working across SEO, content, and tech functions.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Solid working knowledge of HTML, structured data (Schema.org), knowledge panels, and entity SEO.
  • Understanding of technical SEO fundamentals: crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering concepts and how generative AI models process queries.
  • Experience with programmatic SEO or large-scale content operations.
  • Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and how it influences AI-driven answers.
  • Strong understanding of GA4, Looker Studio, or custom reporting dashboards.
