Primary Purpose:
The Manager, Engineering is responsible for all engineering activities including new product introductions, cost reduction, technology/research, and lifecycle product support. The position requires excellent technical engineering knowledge coupled with superior people leadership skills, proficiency in quality systems, functional and program management experience and business planning expertise. This position works closely with the business group and other functional leaders in the company (service, operations, supply chain, finance) and is responsible for providing executive leadership and management for the industrial/commercial engineering function. Responsible for devising and effectively implementing a development methodology that ensures superior industrial/commercial products while also fostering and rewarding innovation and creativity within the engineering department.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Business Group in developing a global product development roadmap that targets specific customers needs. Work with leaders to realize significant growth opportunities in the residential/industrial/commercial marketplace.
- Manage and execute the product development process, including schedule planning, design reviews, and adherence to established development methodologies. Support process improvements such as time compression techniques, design/application standards, and repeatability across projects and locations.
- Manage engineering inputs related to industrial/commercial market requirements, including cost targets, shipping considerations, and support for the bidding and quotation process.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, sales, operations, finance, quality, and supply chain teams to identify and implement new engineering concepts, technologies, standards, and best practices.
- Provide engineering leadership and design oversight functions for new product development projects including: creating and maintaining development schedules, executing product development plans (schedule, product cost, resources to complete project, quality targets, product specification adherence, development and prove out of product validation test plans, etc.), interfacing with internal company personnel.
- Ensure effective application of engineering tools, technologies, and resources to meet product development requirements aligned with sales and marketing plans.
- Lead and support the product development lifecycle, working cross-functionally to ensure designs meet manufacturability, serviceability, quality, and customer satisfaction requirements.
- Lead, assign, and direct the work of the engineering team. Select, coach, and develop staff; set clear performance expectations; provide regular feedback; recognize achievements; and manage performance issues when required.
- Foster a team culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Encourage engineers to challenge assumptions and improve design, development, and support processes for the industrial/commercial market.
- Support workforce planning activities, including hiring, onboarding, employee development, mentoring, and retention, in alignment with functional and business needs.
- Identify and support training and development plans to strengthen technical and leadership capabilities within the engineering team.
- Contribute to engineering and business planning activities by providing inputs, execution plans, and progress updates, supporting functional and corporate objectives.
Education
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent; India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved
Work Experience
- 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in an industrial / commercial products environment
- 3+ years of management experience
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Demonstrated team leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide, motivate, and develop engineers and technical staff
- Solid understanding of engineering technical requirements and challenges, with working knowledge of financial, sales, and marketing considerations as they relate to product design, development, and cost targets. Excellent communication skills
- Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible, and able to learn quickly in a dynamic product development environment
- Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP
- Experience with global product releases throughout the entire product life cycle desired;
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple global projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes;
